"This is an old resort which has not had money put into it for maintenance or upgrades for a very long time. A lot of the resorts in the playa dorada complex are closed mostly because of the European economy and lack of its tourists. This resort is 20% full during the week with mostly canadians from ontario and quebec, and then full to capacity friday/saturday/sundays due to allowing locals in. With restaurants and ammenities closed, this is way over capacity. At the risk of not sounding politically correct, it is a zoo on the weekends. These are a very loud and rude people who seem to have resentment or a sense of entitlement. Major lack of manners and patience. NOT the way we want to spend our vacation with people butting in, bumping you, yelling and so on. Totally takes away from the relaxing vacation. Its literally a feeding frenzy at the buffet restaurant and around the bars.
The food was very limited, not much variety or meat or fish. Nothing from the buffet from 10:30 till 12:30 and nothing from 2:30 till 6:30 except at the beach bar where you can have either dried out cheese sandwiches or nacho chips and cheese. On weekends you can get burgers and fries there.
The rooms are ok, the bathrooms need work. Sink and tubs do not drain well at all, and have way too much mildew for most peoples liking.
Pools are good but not clean.
Beach is fine but very wavy and stirs up a lot of sand.
Staff are fine and helpful.
Although the main bar is supposed to be an Adult Bar, on weekends its tough to get a drink there because of all the kids.
I understand the Royal Suites area is much nicer with a nice pool and swim up bar.
For just a few bucks more you can stay at the Barcello which is WAY nicer.
After 6 trips to the Dominican, and plenty of resorts to compare with, we won't be back to the Allegro."

"I purchased a 7 day vacation package from your agency for a week at the Allegro Puerto Plata beginning on February 14.
I am writing to let you know that this vacation was extremely disappointing to me. Without a doubt it was not a four star all inclusive vacation as indicated by Nolitours. The hotel is run down and in a state of disrepair. It was clean, however, thanks to the staff. The food was edible and the alcoholic drinks consisted of house wine or beer. The mixed drinks served were extremely watered down. Maybe there was alcohol in them, but I doubt it.
There seemed to be shortages of food items as well. When the dining room was closed, there were very few options available and only at designated areas. It was either nachos, pizza or cold boiled hot dogs.
I won't be taking anymore vacations with Nolitours nor staying at any Occidental hotels. You should go and experience this yourself, maybe then you will be aware of what you are selling.

"This is just a terrible resort and should be bulldozed. I'm not a very fussy traveller, but...we had sewage backing up into our bathtub, the septic field just outside our room was flooded, on our first night there, we discovered filthy sheets on our bed, the food made me ill and it was really poor quality. It was hard to find a good meal that didn't spoil your appetite. The front desk people were surly and if you had a problem with your room, they didn't care. I will never, ever go back there. Escapes.ca should sincerely drop this resort. I travel a lot and have an open mind, but this was such a bad experience...I feel cheated."
