"hotel lovely, ground well maintained, beaches are really clean, plenty of sun beds both around the pool and along the beach, although not a lot of shade around the pool areas. rooms are a good size and pretty standard for the American market. we paid for the room upgrade to the gold, though we couldn't really see what the difference was between the gold and standard rooms. The hotel also charges guests for the safe keys at $4 per day, which worked out rather expensive considering that the hotel is advertised as a 4*, you would have expected this to be part of the package rate. The beach bars are open from 10am till 6pm after that if you want a drink you would need to go to the main pool bar/ lobby bar, these bars close though at 10.30pm after that you will have to go to the main drive area. the only gripe with the bars was that all the drinks are served in plastic cups. The buffet food was very repetitive and was never really very hot. We would only recommend the hotel to any one who just wants a chill out holiday as there is nothing around it and certainly nothing within walking distance and the taxi's located within the hotel ground a mega rip off's. we had a really relaxing break and as we said the hotel and grounds are spotless."

"This was our second visit to this resort. In Feb. 2010 we had an absolutly fabulous vacation at Bahia. Everything was top notch. This is why we decided to book a very special trip for 2 weeks this time through Christmas and New Years. After the night we asked to change rooms (for a few reasons) and thankfully they did accommodate us there but our holiday went down hill from there. We had a list that covered both sides of a full sheet of paper with things that were wrong and that we wanted taken care of. These were not unreasonable requests. We gave them to our Transat Rep. and she handed them to the resort to get looked after. Some of the problems were fixed and then other arose. on the 5th day we had water poring from the ceiling into our room. When we called the front desk to report it they were quite rude when they realised who it was and it took about an hour for them to show up to repair the problem. By this time we just wanted to go home and were so extremely upset that we had wasted our money and told the guest services manager who we felt. We got a fruit plate for this. The food was usually cold and no variety. The only meal that we can really rave about was the New Year's Eve Galla dinner, absolutely wonderful. The food services staff were most always extremely friendly and made our dining experiences fun. I attempted to leave the buffet one day and was told I could not take the plated out of the area. All I wanted was to eat some fruit in our room. They even took the cutlery. When I asked the girl what I was supposed to eat it with she replied, "that's not my problem". When we returned home I emailed my complaints to Bahia's head office and they were forwarded on to the resort. I was sent an email denying that they received any of my complaints and that basically we were not telling the truth. I would not recommend this resort to anyone. It is not worth the money. Not sure if we will even try any of their other resorts."

"THE PEOPLE ARE VERY KIND AND TRY TO BE ACCOMMODATING, THE ROOMS WERE NICE AND THE RESORT ITSELF WAS BEAUTIFUL BUT THE FOOD WAS A DISASTER ESPECIALLY THE A LA CARTE RESTAURANTS (VERY DISAPPOINTED). ALSO, THIS RESORT IS NOT SET UP WELL FOR HANDICAP PEOPLE WHO CANNOT WALK VERY FAR. THERE IS A LOT OF WALKING AT THIS RESORT TO GET ANYWHERE. THIS HOTEL IS OK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE BUT I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR OLDER PEOPLE"

"We recently visited the Bahia Principe in Puerto Plata and had a wonderful time. The resort was very nice, the maid service was excellent. The food was great. The only two negatives I have is the night shows were not very good and it would have been nice to be able to eat light lunches/snacks by the pool and not always have to get dressed and go in to the restaurant. Other than that we had an amazing time."

"The resort is starting to need a little TLC -- It is still a beautiful looking place (BIG 900 rooms), but when we were there, it was probably only 25% full -- so the activities are dull, there is no proper entertainment (very amateurish). The food was very so-so -- we were disappointed. We were expecting to have seafood every night -- they served prawns once. Most of the food was cold even though it is in warming trays.
The staff, however, were outstanding. I couldn't say anything but good things about them -- always cheerful, always accommodating.
The rooms are relatively small, the Queen beds are probably in truth Fulls, so we had to get a cot (a wooden base, which in fact turned out to be more comfortable than the Queen beds). I slept great.
The rooms need a little TLC -- the wood frames are warped and we couldn't get our bathroom door to close, so no peeking! But to be fair -- the rooms were always very clean!
I suspect the failing economy is part to blame. I understand from other visitors to the resort 5 years ago, that it has fallen in the ratings. But you know what? It beats going to work every day!
We had a great time -- visited Ocean World (fantastic swimming with the dolphins) and the day trip to the country / village / one-room school, etc. was great -- the kids and I really enjoyed it.

"We stayed here in January 2009 as a family of 6. Two adults, kids aged 17/13/10/7, the bus trip from the airport to the hotel was quite long, our stop was the very last. On the way back we chose to not take the bus transfer but rather booked a taxi and took in some extra sites on our way home - much better use of time. Upon arrival to the resort we were very happy to find they had booked as requested and our two rooms were side by side. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The resort looked just as the pictures on the Internet and the rooms were very clean, and maintained daily. There were many things to do and the food was very good, for food overseas......the food had a rather bland taste. But with four kids no one went hungry, everyone found something that they liked. The boys loved the pizza at the fast food place on the beach. The beach was clean and very sandy, don't let anyone tell you that you must go to Punta Cana rather than Puerta Plata. My friend went to Punta Cana the same dates we were in Puerta Plata and we had the same wonderful time. We took in a snorkeling tour/ horseback tour and a cultural tour in San Juan, which was most beneficial and informative for our kids. I would recommend this resort and location to anyone!!!"

"We went with a group of 11 girls...had the best time of my life! The staff are absolutely beautiful people! They go out of there way to make sure you have fun and are extremely friendly and courteous! The rooms are clean and well maintained. The food was good, lots of variety! They have plenty of drinking water all around the resort. The beach was beautiful, sunny every day. I would definately recommend this resort to anyone. It was a little far to do some of the excursions, but well worth it. We are all planning on doing this trip every year! Thank you so much Bahia Principe for making my vacation one I will never forget!!"
