"Staff was great and very accommodating. Food in the a la carte restaurants was very good, buffet, not so much. Still rainy season, so ocean was dirty, but it was just sand being shifted around in the water so it didn't ruin the experience. Buildings are run down and require a lot of maintenance. Medical staff is great, if you should require it. Good for a cheap vacation, but don't expect anything more than 3 star accommodations."

"Hotel was great except for 1) Very late getting a room. We arrived at 11:30am but room was not ready even by 4pm --- 2 years in a row now. 2) Pool area too crowded. We could never find a lounge chair. People would lay their belongings out at 6:00am to 'hold' the chairs. Other than that the place was superb and the staff were awesome! Some of the guests not so much. Alot of whiners. We definitely got our money's-worth."

"Our rooms were very clean, and maid service was great. Food was excellent and plentyful. Our friends had 1 nite without hot water, when they inquired, maintenance was dispatched immediately and the problem was fixed. A great value for the price. "

"We were in Building 3. Very clean resort. Food was good and lots of it. Bar service slow. Maybe need more workers. Room was very large with nice balcony. Beach was clean and lots of beach activities. Would go back again. They were putting in new furniture when we were there(beds ,tables etc). Great value for the price we paid. "

"I was happy to find out that this hotel was no where near as awful as some may have you believe. We travelled with our two children, 13yrs & 3.5mnths, and had a very relaxing, wonderful vacation. The staff are always working very hard, and the resort was very clean while we were there. We enjoyed all of the a la carte as well as the buffet. We would definitely return to this resort."

"just came back from barcelo. the old name was occidental grand now owned by barcelo. the rooms were great we stayed in block 15, one of the better rooms, all the other rooms we saw were also just as nice except block one they were just smaller. the hotel is very nice and the staff work very hard to please everyone. the food was great although the breakfast buffet did get a little boring after awhile. the ala carte were all good (4) in all the 5 one being pizzera we didn't make it to this one. it rained a few nights so it was closed because its outside. for the price its well worth it. also stayed at the allegro playa dorada earlier in the year it was also great but the rooms were not as nice and no mini bar in the room but still just as much fun!"

"The resort itself was beautiful. Grounds were well groomed, pool area was always clean and tidy. The beach was very nice and clean as well. Old lounge chairs were being replaced with new ones while we were there at both the pool and beach. Pretty well all of the staff was friendly and attentive. Rooms were fine - not fancy but clean with large bathrooms. Buffet was good, not great - just had to watch what you selected. Breakfast was as good a buffet as anywhere. We had 5 a la carte dinners and they were all pretty good. Bars were all fine and getting a drink was no problem. Overall it was a very good resort to go to and for the money we paid we were very satisfied."
