"Best beach in the area (white sugar sand), well maintained and clean!!! Nice pools for those who aren't ocean babies. Hotel staff is very kind and accommodating. Good food. Cold drinks;) Internet is challenging (but it is there!). I had a wonderful time."

"The section we stayed in was old, needed to be renovated. Had no hot water most of the time, had to have
glass door fixed, no lock, did not slide, shower did not work, tub did not drain first day a/c leaked, all that got fixed , the rooms were not very clean and even when we tipped the maids they did make too much effort to restock towels etc, often they would ignore the "do not disturb" sign and bang on the door and try to get in while a person was in the shower or sleeping. Some of the front desk staff were not very helpful and just plain rude. While many or the other staff were very friendly and very helpful and I have nothing but good things to say about them. And despite what I have read in many other reviews many speak several languages and we had no problem communicating with the staff. The view from our room was excellent. The hotel provides lots of activities during the day and do try to put on a decent show each night. The beach parties and the Micheal Jackson show were the best. The food was pretty good, we did not get sick.
As far as beaches go, the hotel had one of the nicest on the strip. We would rate Punta Cana's beaches as being one the best beaches we have ever seen.
Generally we took it all in stride and made the best of any of the bad and had a good vacation.
I would just try a different resort next time. We were told this was a 4 to 4.5 resort and I would rate it a 3.5"

"Before leaving for the resort, I've read a mix of good and bad reviews. Many complained about the rooms and food. For us personally, we had 4 rooms, all standard rooms but were facing the ocean and pool. Apart from the weak showers, there were absolutely nothing wrong. It's just a room where you sleep after a whole day of drinking. It wasn't beautiful, but it did its job! As for the food, the buffet had a wide variety of food, and was changed every day. As for the a la cartes, they were all amazing. The Tex Mex and Don Simon at lunch are a la carte restaurants which are really tasty as well! The only thing that wasn't up to par was the entertainment staff. They were absolutely terrible. Did not do it according to schedule, and only daily routine was water aerobics, and dance lessons! Never really spoke english! As for the night shows, man, they were horrible. We left each night after ten minutes. So for the hotel and facilities, we would rate it 8.5 out of 10. but the entertainment provided would be probably a 4 out of 10."

"I wish I had been warned before I booked my family's Christmas vacation here. Not all of the rooms are renovated, and little did we know, Air Transat only has a contract with the older rooms which are unliveable: moldy, ceilings falling apart, dead flies in the mini bar fridge, etc. The food was terrible and the hotel needs a major overhaul in every way. I was disappointed and shocked at the false advertising both admitted openly to me by the Air Transat rep at the hotel and on this website. Please don't waste your money here."

"I last visited Barcelo Punta, April 2008. This was my 3rd visit to this resort and I am booked to go again March 2009. The staff bend over backwards to make you feel at home. The food at the Buffet offered a wide variety of choice and the seafood at the Marlin was excellent. The night entertainment was upbeat and the entertainers worked very hard to erfect their routines. The beach party was well received by all of the guests that were encouraged to join in and be part of the entertainment. The rooms were clean and newly renovated. I would recommend this resort to anyone who wanted to get away from our harsh winters, esspecially this year."

"We spent 2 weeks here and enjoyed it greatly. The beach is excellent, our room was very good, service was responsive and the food was quite acceptable - and excellent at times. Items in the buffet change constantly, so, if items there on the first pass did not appeal, just wait a bit for new choices.
Staff are very friendly and helpful and attempts to converse a bit in even limited Spanish is warmly appreciated by them.
The beach goes forever, and is great for walking. It's a good choice for fitness as the gym at the time wasn't worth using. Elevator problems also added stairs to the daily work-out.
There is an excellent T-Shirt artist named Nacho who works at the beach. He created such an amazing likeness of one of our grand daughters that we are keeping it as a piece of art. He did this from just a photo at a very reasonable price. It is a great souvenir of our vacation there.
We were there 2 weeks and recommend that length of time. "
