"My grandson just came back from this hotel and told me that the food was terrible! We are in 2011 and this hotel is rated as 4 stars!!!!!
I just read the other reviews and I see that most of the people are complaining about the same thing: `The Food`` Why travel agents are still recommending this hotel to the travellers while there are so many good hotels out there? We should all boycot this hotel to teach them to better their cooking and respect the people that go there!
With all these complaints why this hotel is sill rated as 4 stars?????????

"Although the Blau Colonial is marked as 4-5 stars on most websites I can see why. The hotel is beautiful, especially the beach front it's completely breathtaking. The salt water pool was my favorite feature as well as the regular pools. The only issue I had with the Blau Colonial was the food. There wasn't much variety and the time I was there a lot of people including myself were struck with food poisoning. I would definitely give the hotel a 3 out of 5. Again, the hotel is completely amazing and there's so many places to discover yet the food brought down the whole trip."

"The hotel was awsome. Neither of us had ever had so much fun on vacation. The staff was super helpful and friendly even after we'd had too many of those amazing mojitos. Even the food was great... especially for Cuba. We'd return to the Blau Colonial in a heart beat. "

"Older hotel some rooms redone, i asked for a nice room, near the pool as i didnt pay for ocean view, i was given a great room very clean lots of hot water, which seemed to be a problem in some rooms, i was by the pool, and my balcony faced the ocean, but couldn't see the ocean for trees, but very quiet(i'm older widow who travelled alone). The staff at the Blau make this hotel they are wonderful, so friendly, i did take small gifts, coombs, pencils toothbrushes etc. I do not recommend this hotel for young pary goers, its great for older travellers, I met some people that didnt have good rooms, but i told them to ask to get the rooms changed as the resort wasn't full, and they were moved to nicer rooms. The food was very good for cuba (my 4th trip), i liked the fact that in any bar
you could get coffee latte or capuccinos made. The beach was
nice and water very warm, windy a few days so lots of seaweed, but the hotel staff were cleaning the seaweed
every day."

"Staff was great and the beaches are incredible, but unfortunately the hotel has much to improve on. The food is way below average, not only for Cuba but for a 4 star hotel in general. The quality of the buffet is comparable to 10 year old who just started to cook. Much of the food is from canned sources, lack of fresh vegetable and any fresh salads. They often substitute hotdogs for other meats. Chili/ground beef for breakfast. The bread is mostly slices including those they use for hamburgers and for breakfast and IT'S ALL WHITE!!!
It took approximately 1/2 hour to check in because of the lack of customer service (1 attendant to serve the entire bus).
No wireless internet and the current setup they have consists of 3 computers (two without a mouse so you cannot even use them). The token username/password they give you $3 for 1/2 hour or $5 for 1 hour will expire before allotted time if you do not log out, of which there is no option to on the screen, so you better use it all up because it will be expired when you try to log back in regardless of how much you've used.
The shows feature the same dancers almost every evening who were good but they need more variety to keep guests entertained who don't necessarily enjoy dancing every night. The Mr. Blau Colonial contest is very funny and worth going. There is not much else to do in the evening except watch the show. Activities are poorly arranged on days with rain or bad weather which is when you really depend on them to step up to the plate.
The pool is half closed including swim up bar and it appears to be in a permanent state of construction. I was never able to use the fitness facility once because it was closed.
The rooms were decent size and the maid service was good. We had to switch rooms immediately on our arrival because block 15 were much too misty and the smell of humidity (or perhaps mold) in the room was unbearable. Once we switched to block 23, it was better.
IGOR "the entertainer" is absolutely hilarious. We'll miss him as he has a very natural comedic presence...very funny guy. LIBER the bartender is also quite the character, very funny and pleasant to speak with and he can tell you much about Cayo Coco. I would have to say that the staff make the hotel and not the hotel itself. I would not return to this hotel but I would love to see the staff again...they were all great. Never ever go to this hotel in the low season."

"Hotel was clean and staff was very friendly and helpful. We were in the unrenovated part and it was a little run down, but with a beautiful view of the ocean. Pool was great, beach was clean. Food was good for Cuba, sometimes interesting...Bar service was great. Kids had a great time and it was very safe for them."

"Robado, no agua caliente, no aire conditionado... I've learned some words during my trip to Blau Colonial. We stayed for one week in that all inclusive. Starting with the good sides, the beach was nice, the room was clean and nice too. The buffet was OK, but, you know, it's Cuba... So don't expect too much. BUT WE HAD SO MUCH PROBLEMS THAT I WOULDN'T RECOMMAND THAT PLACE!
1) We were robbed in our room. Someone got in from the balcony (we were at the third floor, so must have pass from the roof) and stole I-Pod, Digital Camera and snorkling gear. The attitude of the front desk and security was very frustrating, they said that "it was impossible". But it was possible, 'cause my stuff disappear. They made me feel like I was a lyer and I REALLY didn't appreciate that.
2) We had no hot water for almost all week. And we we had some it was so weak, that we hardly could take a shower.
3) We had no air conditioning for 5 days and a half. We kept calling the reception and they said they'll fix it... Manana, manana ! We slept in a very hot and humid room for several nights ! Grrrrrreat !
4) Speciality Restaurant were really discusting. The schrimp cocktail at the food restaurant almost made us barf. The staek at the Cuban restaurant was like rubber and the Italian was mostly a joke, even if the Lasagna was ok for me -but everything else was really really above expectations.
5) We''ve tried to set a diving excursion. We paid and were supposed to leave on the wednesday morning... We kept waiting in front of the hotel for someone to pick us up... Nada ! They forgot us, so we lost our morning, waiting in the sun. Very frustrating. Same thing happened when my girlfriend wanted diving lesson at the pool. They fix a appointment with an instructor that never showed up.
6) Some sections of the hotel, particularly the little pool with ducks and turtles was discusting. So dirty!
So I seriously don't recommand that place.
PS: Please, come on, 4 stars is a joke ! Not more than 3 cuban stars for that place (wich means 1 and a half in the rest of the world). "
