"14th trip to Cuba and 11th stay at the Blau Varadero. Hotel is excellent. Staff are what also makes the hotel special."

"Flight service with Sunwing was very good. Resort and rooms were clean, staff excellent. Some suggestions: more a la carte eating, don't make Cuban food a la carte; ceiling fans would be a great help; don't put garbage cans near elevator - smelly."

"I just came back from an amazing vacation. The food for me was very good with lots to choose from like fresh fruits, fresh grilled meat and the desserts were to die for. Better than many all inclusive buffet foods in Mexico. The service was amazing. We never felt pressure to tip but we did tip often because they do work so hard. The pool was big and very clean even at 6 pm. Our room was very clean. We were on the 7th floor and used the stairs often. I did not mind at all. I will miss having espressos at the lobby bar. I will definitely return and will recommend this hotel to friends and family."

"I spent 1 week at the Blau Varadero and LOVED it! This is not a huge Hotel grounds wise but it is kept immaculate and the service is excellent. The room was beautiful with an incredible view and the evening entertainment was above anything I have seen in other hotels. FYI - The pictures on the website for the Blau are exactly that, I will stay here again for sure!!!!!!"

"The hotel itself is good and has all the amenities one expects if the weather is good and the temperatures are warm! Unfortunately, in case of bad weather (high winds and low temperatures) the hotel suffers a lot as it does not have a heating system, neither full walls around the hotel to keep warmth and protect the inside of the hotel (lobby, atrium and bars) from the outside cold temperatures. This is what we experienced during our one week stay at Blau (Jan 3-11) during which time, it was cold and cloudy 5 out of 7 days. During this period, most visitors wore sweatshirts, winter jackets and some even had scarfs and gloves on!! At times, we thought we never left Canada!
Having said this, if you are lucky to have good weather during your stay, you will like the outside pool of the hotel and the beach in front which is great. The beach is narrow however so you might need to squeeze in between others to get a spot. When sunny and warm, the water is nice and clear. Watch out for the Portuguese Man of War (type of jellyfish) as we spotted some on the water and on the shore. Make sure you never touch them as they can stink pretty badly. The food was not very good. The only exception was the food at the Palma Real a la carte restaurent which was a bit better. The maid service was OK and rooms were clean. The personnel was also good and most tried to do their work with professionalism.
Overall, just an OK holiday in Varadero. We wish we had much better weather or at least the hotel was designed in such a way to keep its customers warm inside!

"This hotel was fantastic, we had no issues during our stay. What makes this a special place, is the staff that work there. I couldn't get over the level of professionalism and positive attitudes!! The food was good and the bar service was excellent. Our rooms were always cleaned well! The beach is second to none. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend."

"Hated the actual layout of the hotel; it's got a 12-storey atrium and every sound on every floor echoes. We couldn't sleep at all. Room was cramped. Elevators always full or not working. 40-minute line-up to get lunch (which was quite good) at the outdoor buffet; all other restaurants were closed. Beach was lovely but narrow. Service was excellent. We left after one night and went to the Alameda. The rep was very helpful and got us moved quickly. We had to pay an extra $600 to switch but it was worth it. We arrived at the Playa Alameda from the Blau and were instantly recognized by the staff; had lovely welcome.

"Nice rooms with great balconies and bathrooms with bidets. Service was prompt most of the time, very helpful and well done including maid service, front desk and restaurant staff. Our wake up calls were always on time. The beach is amazing, but watch out for the mosquitoes at night! The drinks were excellent, though you had to go back often as they were usually served in small cups. Great staff, so friendly. Only complaint could be some of the buffet food, in that what was on display wasn't always fresh. But the trick is to go for the food that the cooks will make to order on the spot. Once we caught on to this, the food was very good. If you add a little patience to your expectations, you will be on Cuba time and enjoy yourself so much more once you slow down a bit. Overall, Blau is probably one of the best resorts in Vardero."
