"Overall, we got good value for the money. We paid $500/week, plus tax. This resort is rated as a 4 star, but in North American terms, would probably be more like a 3 star.
It was kept pretty clean and the food was good - I'm comparing it to Cuba....The dining room buffet staff was pretty friendly and attentive. Two out of the 3 a la carte restaurants were good - the seafood one and the grill one.
The beach was nice and extensive. The pools (3) were clean - hard to get a lounger, though.
The bar situation left something to be desired. Many of the bartenders didn't seem knowledgeable about nor interested in making "fancy" drinks. Their attitudes in general fluctuated. Felt like you were imposing on some of them to get a drink.
The excursions offered by the hotel can usually be acquired by alternate means, so ask around. We paid a legit taxi driver to take us around for half a day and saw many of the same trip highlights the "official" tour would've included, for about half the price.
My spouse and I are regular tippers, are polite, friendly and courteous to all the employees, so I don't know how things would've been if we hadn't tried to meet everyone at least half way. We weren't sure if the tips had much of an impact or not.
Got some odd "bites" from I don't know what - had 3-4 marks that looked like burn marks/streaks - don't know what did it. I used mosquito repellent every night.
The entertainment crew was fairly friendly - the shows at night were ok. At around 11pm, things got pretty quiet - the 24hr bar was down by the ocean - not near the living quarters.
The front desk staff seemed marginally friendly. Again, felt like they had places they'd rather be.
Would we go back? Yes. The weather was great, the food was good, we found something to drink eventually and most of the staff were very nice. Just keep in mind, it's more like a 3 star."

"The service was excellent, the staff very friendly, and the food was great!! All in all a very nice place to go! Would highly recommend it.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by staff at the bus, they brought us to the lobby, and offered cold drinks, and cool towels to freshen up. We were very impressed by that!
We found our 1st room on the ground level a little noisy in the morning, so we asked to be switched to a higher level, and it was done so with great ease. We called for beach towels cause they weren't in our room initially, and they were brought up right away. They brought fresh bath towels every night which was a very nice touch as well!
The only negative, which is very minor, was when you are on the beach, the locals bug you quite a lot to buy things, we found it a little excessive... There were probably 10 people at any given time walking the beach. It was quite annoying, but if you just say "no thanks", they were good about it and walked away, however, it just kept re-occuring."

"Went with a family of 4 (between 18-48 years old) between May6-16, 2008. All loved the resort - the food in the buffet was amazing, the staff was charming, the rooms were great seeing as you should not spend too much time in there anyway, the beach was nice, the extra tours (Paradise Island and Jeep Safari) were fantastic, and overall loved it.
One negative is the guys in the light yellow shirts - look out for them as they try to get you to have a "10 minute presentation" with them and you get a free t-shirt. If you say no they will not bother you again.
You will regret it if you do not go to this resort - they got their fifth start a month ago but you still pay for 4 stars!!!"

"Beautiful, large room, kingsize bed, large bathroom & shower, patio with table and 2 chairs. 3 a-la-carte restaurants. Excellent beach and ocean swimming. Hotel staff consistently helpful and happy. Lovely, clean pools. Buffet restaurant best we've seen. Only negative comment: too much smoking allowed by guests, hotel needs to designate and enforce limited segregated smoking areas. There should not be smoking in restaurants, pools and lobby areas. (Smoking was allowed in the Grill Restaurant, and not in the Oriental or the Seafood . There was a smoking area in the Buffet Restaurant which was half the size of the total space and was too large.) Canadians are used to not being able to smoke in public places, so such a limit on smoking would not be unusual."
