"My husband and I expected little and received a lot!!
The ride to the resort was loooon but once off the bus we were greeted by a little piece of heaven!!
The room was fine...only went there to sleep and change...asked for extra pillows - got them without any problems...just part of one day we had no water (showered later in the day) and our last night there we were out of power (a bit uncomfortable for sleeping) so we sat at the 24 hr bar and watched the sun come up!
The food was great!! My husband is a picky one-meal-a-day eater and he had NO trouble finding something to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. They had all the condiments needed to 'dress up' the meal...ketchup, mustard, worchestershire sauce, A1, HP, hot and mild salsa, guacamole, tabasco, salt and pepper...every morning there were eggs any way you wanted them, bread, cheese. Every lunch there were plenty of different options with a pasta bar and every night there was at least 3 types of meat (chicken, pork, beef, and fish), a pasta bar and lots of fruits and desserts for each meal as well.
The booze at the bars flowed freely and most of the time the tenders gave you ++oz's of liquor!! We had our own thermos mugs and there was NEVER a problem filling them!
The beach is beautiful (esp. by the disco). There is a wee problem with those pesky little 'hitch hikers' but shoes helped for the most part.
I can't say enough about the staff - amazing!! Each and every one of them tried their best to make our vacation pleasurable.
Next year my husband and I will be going back and have decided to take our children and their significan others...it's a great place to relax and unwind!"

"This was my first time in Cuba and I loved this resort. So much so that I am going back in April!!! The staff is what makes the difference at this place and the beach is absolutely amazing!!! Yes what most people say about it is true to a certain extent. We've always had water in our room to take a shower (ok it might have been shut off during the night making it impossible to flush the toilet but no big deal). The food was good. Being my first time in Cuba I was warned about the food. I have no complaints. Found something good to eat at every meal (fresh turkey or fish, roast carved on the spot by the chef, omelets, pastas, fresh papaya and pineapple). So, yes the room decor might be a little out dated, who cares!!! Are you going to Cuba to spend time in your room??? Take time to attend the information session given by your tour provider when you arrive or the day after and you will know all that is available. Read the reviews too and you will know all the activities offered to you. The lobster dinner for a few pesos is AMAZING and well worth it, grilled or boiled which ever you prefer!!! If you dont set your expectations high on this place and go with an open mind, you will have the best experience ever. Take time to talk to the staff, they will make all the difference!!!"

"the rooms poorly cleaned ripped curtains and beddings air conditionning with one speed. the grounds are dirty littered with plastics. food is always the same they are in need of a cook who can be more creative. what makes the difference at this hotel is the beach is magnificant and the staff is very polite."

"This is an older hotel, the people are extremely nice and the beach is beautifull. What was really annoying is that there was no water all day till about 5.30 and then when you take a shower you are lucky to get a few drops. Usely the food is okay in Cuba but in this case it was pretty bad, and the mosqito's are a killer."

"Brisas Covarrubias is a good hotel with good accomodations, good quality all you can eat buffet 3 times a day, and a pretty good beach close to the residence. It's not very big and its isolated resort so it's nice if you are trying to get away from the people and relax. The food is ok but what makes it good is the station where the cook will fry up fresh fish, cutlets, bacon, omlets, pasta... The staff is friendly and the service is good but they always took too long to clean our room. They have a large swimming pool but its pretty shallow so I only swam in it once, there is no reason to swim in a pool when there is a good beach right next to the hotel. There is a second restaurant but its not really a restaurant because you can only get simple food like hamburgers and hot dogs there, so I would just stick with the buffet. There are many inclusive things like: alcohol, catamaran rides, canoo rentals, snorkling equipment, but they didn't inform us of anything so for 4 days we had no idea of what was available to us and what was included and what wasn't. They have entertainment activities like games, dancing lessons, archery... but nobody goes to them because they aren't advertised at all. Every evening they have shows on the stage like comedy, dances, and live cuban music which were pretty good but other then the beach, restaurant, and shows there isn't really much to do unless you feel like paying to go scuba diving or boat fishing. But overall it's a good resort and I'll probably be visiting it again in the future."

"The trip from Holguin airport by bus is 2.5 hours on a fairly rough road. The best thing about the resort is the pristine, beautiful beach and ocean water. Unlike Veradero the water is very calm and good for some real swimming. I have been to Veradero twice and this is a completely different experience. The food is better here because it is more local. Serving local fruit, vegetables and free-range turkey, lamb and chicken. Wow it tasted great. This resort is quite isolated 45km from the nearest village " Puerto Padre". The resort is very quiet and not crowded like Veradero. The worst thing about Brisas Covarrubiasis a problem with fresh water. They have to truck the fresh water in. When it runs out you have to wait for the next delivery. Sometimes they pump ocean water into resort which is not good. . I fell in love with the beach and the friendly staff at this resort. If your looking to relax in a beautiful quiet resort, this is the place. I would like to re-visit Covarrubias again despite the water problem. I love Cuba!"

"Over all it ended up being a pretty good trip. You really need to prepare yourself for the long journey which I have to say was the worst part of the trip. It ended up taking our first and last day pretty much. There are a few things that I wasn't happy about... I had paid for VIP and most of the stuff listed under that I had to pay for if I wanted it... like the safe to put your valuables in, a la carte dinner, 1 snorkeling and a couple others. The staff are wonderful and very friendly, room was clean and big, the resort is quite cute and quiet and has a beautiful beach. The best part of this place is that it's small and you get to know the people... it's away from the city so it's peaceful. The beach is the best part of the resort. The pool is ok... has a swim up bar, but you have to wait quite a while for someone to serve you. For some reason the resort has an obsession with ham... they add it to everything. The food is quite poor... the best and safest would be where you line up to have them make you an omelette or pasta. Meats and cheese they have laying out for hours... so stay away from those. They use bottled water for everything, even for the ice which is good. One bad thing that I noticed which is really annoying... they turn the water off at night so you have to make sure you shower before 8pm.
You get what you pay for...it wasn't bad... it was still a good trip..."

"Brisas Covarrubbias is a nice hotel, but its greatest fault is its food. I have been to Cuba 3 times twice to Holguin and once to Varadero and I definitely know the food in Cuba is nothing to be desired, but the food at this hotel was by far the worst. Not a lot of choices at the buffet, no seasoning on the food what so ever, the meat was half cooked. The a-la-Cart restaurant was worst than the buffet if that is believable. Got sick from the food and had to stay inside for a full day. The only things available at the snack bar were ham and cheese sandwiches and you are lucky if it is placed on the grill. They do have fries but there is no ketchup in site only mustard. Also the hotel had no mint to make Mohitos, Cuba's most famous drink, until the last day of our 7 day vacation. Other than the food the beach was very nice. The room was ok, only a stand up shower. The pool is nothing special mostly calf dead, waist deep at its greatest depth and it is a salt water pool. Also the hotel is not located 90 minutes away from the airport, it is a 2 and half hour drive on a very bumpy road we arrive late at night so that our trip to 3 hours due to bad visibility and fog. All in all if I had the chance to pick between Brisas Covarrubias and Club Amigo Guardalavaca also located in Holguin, which I have also been to and is only 60 minutes from the airport, I would choose Club Amigo Guardalavaca, since it is better in all aspects."
