"My husband and I spent a week at Brisas Santa Lucia for our honeymoon, the resort was great, the food was ok, very friendly staff. We went on the Playa Bonita snorkeling trip on Christmas day, very fun. We also took advantage of the "Last night in Camaguey", the tour was amazing, our guide was full of information, the motel that we stayed at was terrible, we were told that it would be comparable to the resort and it definately wasn't, but lesson learned, we didn't let it ruin our trip. "To whom it may concern, My fiance and I have just returned from our one week all inclusive holiday from Cuba. We stayed at Brisas Santa Lucia, just outside Camaguey, Cuba. Our trip as follows: The first day goes as follows: we arrived to the resort; (supposedly a four star) to welcome drinks. Lovely. Then taken to our room. The room, dirty, the shower did not work and the beds smelled of urine and what seemed to be feces. By dirty I mean sand and grit on the floors. We sucked it up and began our vacation, tried to. After a long day; travelling, laying in the sun, taking in the scenery we turned ourselves in. Crawled into bed, very damp beds...which stunk of the urine and feces and were very, very uncomfortable especially for two people with back problems. Not only that but we also had company in our room. This company consisted of large spiders and many mosquitos in which we were eaten alive by . After a long night of tossing and turning and NOT sleeping, we dragged ourselves to the front desk in the morning. The staff did not seem to take this situation seriously, but did however offer us another room. The room was less than comparable to what we had. We then went to talk to our Hola Sun rep, who then was able to get this rectified. This all however did take a couple hours of our second day, to get straightened out. The beds however, were still excruciatingly uncomfortable. By now we're hungry. And stayed that way until the end of the "vacation". The food, if you could call it that, was nothing short of horrendous. Breakfast: cut up hot dogs, tasteless fruit; well tasteless everything. Stale french toast, just gross. Lunch: same; tasteless everything. The food was so greasy and whatever the mystery meat was being served, no flavor. A complete joke. Dinner: inedible. Served the same fish for both lunch and dinner everyday, greasy. This is a tropical island, and the food is this bad? Wow. There was however a snack bar. If we came to a tropical island to eat hotdogs and hamburgers this would have been ideal. But, we didn't. Oh, and they had hotdogs only one day. The resort offered a la carte meals. How exciting. Not really. My fiance and I went to the Italian restaurant first. A complete failure. We took, well he took one bite and we walked out. It might have been worse than the buffet, but it's just too hard to tell. We ended up dining off the resort and out of our pockets. Close to $500 out of pocket (including alcohol, but that's another story). Oh the tropical drinks. What? Yah, that's the question we kept asking when we asked the bartender for a drink. A mojito please. Sorry no mint was the response. I can get mint anytime, anywhere in Canada, and I can't get it here. What's the problem? One being the alcohol sucked. The worst tasting alcohol we have EVER had. No juice or pop they had to offer could make a half decent drink. And the beer, what a nightmare. An added bonus, you could have wine with dinner, but after that, or during the day; no wine. Great. So, we purchased our own wine. If you wanted to purchase a prostitute, that was readily available since our beach was full of them. The only beach without security. Well, sometimes security was there, but only sat in the shade and never moved to deter peddlers and prostitutes from guests. If only the toilet paper had come along as easily as the peddlers and prostitutes. We had to empty the roll of toilet paper before we left our room in order for the maids to leave another one. We found this out after the first day we ran out and asked for more. After two hours and two phone calls to front desk a maid finally showed up with one roll. We may not of had as many problems if only there was a flight off this island any sooner than our departure date, because we did inquire about leaving on the second and third day there. But, unfortunately for us, we had to endure a full week at this nightmare of a resort. Some Christmas present for each other, eh? My only souvenir from this trip was a visit to the doctor when I got home and antibiotics to clear up spider bites I received while in my room, "sleeping". We will never revisit nor recommend this resort, or part of Cuba to anyone."
