"I have been going to the Caracol at least once a year for the last eight years. I was there again in January of 2012 with my wife and again in March by myself - for two weeks each time. The hotel grounds are still beautiful and well kept. The living quarters are not of the usual hotel variety. They are individual "cottages" of either two or four units; each unit consists of a large bedroom, a bathroom, a small separate sitting room and an outdoor patio. The furniture are dated but the mattresses and air-condition units are generally new. The rooms are kept spotless. The cleaning personnel has always been amazing. The beach is beautiful. It was kept clean and there were enough chairs for everybody.
The food was disappointing. It is true that you do not go to Cuba for the food but even by Cuban standards the food was mediocre. Although choice and quality had improved a lot the last two years (2010 & 2011) this year it had deteriorated again. Actually in March/2012 there was a noticeable difference (for the worse) as compared to January/2012. For example, no more roast pork on the spit, no more osso-bucco. Thank God for the pasta bar; I ended up having pasta almost every day. The restaurant service has always been and still is rather erratic; it depends on who serves you - it can be anything form excellent to terrible. I suggest that you identify the good waiters/waitresses, tip them appropriately and go always to their sections. The service at the bars, in my experience, was always friendly and efficient. Service at the reception is generally very good but sometimes unpredictable - depending on who is working at the time and sometimes on how busy they are. For example, at some point the air-condition in my room stopped working; I notified reception and it was repaired within twenty minutes - it was just a breaker down. Another time the TV remote control was not working; I notified reception twice, they wrote it down both times but it was never fixed. A few days later I mentioned it to one of the cleaning ladies and she fixed it on the spot - it needed to be re-programmed. In general, I enjoyed my holidays and will go to the Caracol again. Although I like the people at the hotel and after all these years I know how to make the best of most situations, the deal breaker for me is the accommodation; I love the small "cottages" and their proximity to the beach."

"We travelled to Cameguay from April 1,2011 to April 8, 2011. The weather was fabulous with not a drop of rain. The staff at the hotel are great! Go see Victor at the pool bar he is fantastic! The food, well what is there to say it is CUBA. I got sick for the first two days and resorted to french fries at the snack bar as my daily meal. Entertainment was great and would recommend the catamaran cost $59 peso but it is well worth it. The hotel is very clean. Would book again but next time will bring some snacks from home and stronger sunscreen.

"The hotel is worth a bit more than a 3 stars in my opinion. The location is great compare to others hotels. The food is average. The beach is fine. Rooms are clean. Entertainment is fun. And most of all the staffs are great. They are friendly and respectful, that's make a difference in your vacation time."

"We loved the hotel. Our room was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. Well kept. The beach was fabulous. We were only 8 Canadians at this time of year and the rest were mostly Cubans. It was good to meet so many lovely Cubans even if the battle for food at each meal was our greatest challenge."
