"Our experience at this resort was nice, people were very friendly. Room was small for a kingsize bed, as for the television oh my god, it was at the top of the door entrance, very funny. Ocean water and beach were nice clean. When we had gone in May 26, 2011 it was peaceful not that many children. Our beach area, I counted about 10 people nearly every day, nice and quiet. Food not the greatest but that is to be expected when going away."

"Overall, we had a great visit to Club Amigo Mayanabo. I did a lot of research prior to visiting so I knew what to expect. The rooms were less than perfect, but we paid an extra fee and upgraded to the honeymoon suite. The suite was big and had everything we needed; including a fully stocked fridge. It wasnt very busy which was perfect for us; the pool was almost always empty and the bar was never busy! The staff there was exceptional; couldnt have asked for more. The only complaint we had was the DJ went all day and night. It got to be a bit annoying at times; but we got a good laugh out of it by the end of the trip. The food was good; but boring. Rice, cucumbers, overdone meat and bread. But it wouldnt stop me from going back. Overall, great vacation spot. If your expecting 5 star, stay away. If your looking for sun and fun without the frills; its a good choice."

"I just came back from Santa Lucia, Cuba, and I had a wonderful vacation. The hotel I was staying at is the 4th and last hotel on a strip of beach where 3 other hotels are located side by side (the first being Brisas, the newest one, then Club Santa Lucia, Caracol, and finally, Mayanabo - the oldest one built at the end of the 70's).
The facilities at Mayanabo are nice (remember - this is Cuba, so don't expect the Ritz): the pool, the open bar, the dining hall, etc, are nicely kept and clean. The bedrooms are (almost) all the same, containing two twin beds with hard mattresses, small, flat pillows, tv (some have some American satellite channels and CNN, some don't), a desk, a chair, a hanging closet, and a safe in it (you need to get the key from the front desk with a 25 CUC deposit - I put my money and passport in it and they were indeed safe). The rooms are clean and ok, if you know what to expect. At first, I was a bit let down by the way the room looked, but since I used it mainly for sleeping and showering, I found it just fine afterwards. If you want a beach towel, you need to give a deposit of 15 CUC at the front desk and get your towels at the towel room, right by the pool. This allows you the replace the towel whenever it's wet or dirty with another one without paying an additional deposit, which was very convenient. I read some complaints about the food, but I was surprised for the better. There's a lot of choice, and even if I didn't like something in particular, I found a lot to eat. There are also a lot of fresh fruit at every meal, desserts, and a cook who's making something fresh at the end of the dining hall (omelettes in the morning and fish and other meats for the other meals). I have to mention the staff at Mayanabo is very very nice, and they appreciate every smile or good word you give them on their service (and of course, a tip when required).
You can change money at the hotel, although I'd do it beforehand (at a bank back home) if possible. You need to to pay for non-inclusive activities, such as a SCUBA diving class, Catamaran snorkeling tour (which I took), etc. They offer a bunch of activities like that. Another thing I wasn't prepared for (it's like that in all the hotels - you'll be able to visit them just by walking on the beach or the road) - when you get drinks in the bar, it's always in a small plastic cup. I saw some people who brought their own mugs from home. The bartender will fill these up with as much rum as you want. Another thing I'd recommend is to bring your own shampoo and soap. You get small soap bars, but they're not amazing. You'll need to buy a shampoo if you didn't bring one. Also, don't be shy to ask for another room if there's a party under yours. I did that in my first day and got a much quieter and nicer looking room. Overall, the beach, the fun activities, the staff and the sun made this a wonderful and very cheap vacation for me."

"I must admit that I had the time of my life. I was there in May 2008 for 2 weeks. The hotel service was amazing, the personel are fantastic, the food is good and the beach was clean. For a rated 3 stars, I think it was pretty good. If you don't spend all of your time in your room, the entertainment was great and going outside of the resort was very secure. You can take a walk around the area and feel just like home. Renting car or scooter is very save in Santa-Lucia. The cubains are very kind people and one way to get to know them better is to go out with them and talk to them. You will see that see totally different from here. Incredible journey !! An overall Excellant rating for me. Chao !"

"For a small resort, it was one of the best times I ever had. It was small, but clean, friendly and fun! The staff was great, especially the entertainers!"

"This is a lovely hotel with beautiful surroundings, a great pool, amazing beach, and wonderful staff. The buffet food is a bit hard to eat day after day, although many people have no problem with it, so consider eating from one of the restaurants off the resort."

"Nice clean Hotel and very friendly staff. Definetly a three star with four star service. Take a trip with the guys on the beach to go snorkelling at the reef. It will definetly be the high light of your trip. The food is a bit boring, but if you bring a few of your favorite spices it will help. It was a great experience for our whole family including my 9 and 11 year old sons. We are making plans to go again!"

"Beware of the room towel scam! Be sure to ask how many room towels you are suppose to get and count them everyday. The maid tried to scam me for $10 for a missing towel that she never left in the room. I have recently stayed at the Brisas nearby and such a scam would never have been tolerated by their management. However, the Manager of Public Relation at this hotel felt it was okay for the maid to continue scamming their guests even after I had reported the incident to her.
Frequent power outages and occasional no hot water. "
