"DO NOT GO HERE!
Here are the details:
The resort is overrun with prostitutes, both male and female. There were more prostitutes at the resort then actual guests. The hotel gladly allows them to use the resort freely. Both my husband and I were extremely uncomfortable while there, and absolutely disquested that the resort allowed and in fact encouraged such illegal activities on their property. Our 7 year old son was with us, and it would have been extremely negligent if my husband and I had allowed him to be exposed to such horrid, illegal activities, while resort management and staff condoning the prostitution. We have never felt so unsafe, unhappy and overall thoroughly disgusted with a vacation before.
We had a "Welcome Meeting" on Wednesday morning at 9:00am. The meeting was attended by my husband and I, as well as our son. Hotel management, staff, the Hola Sun Tour rep, and the excursion person also attended. We were advised that the a la carte was open each evening, however we would need to visit the night prior to make a reservation and select our meal. The a la carte was in fact NOT OPEN at any time during our stay. After asking the front desk staff, the resort manager, and bar staff we were told that the restaurant would not be open during our stay as it as their "low season".
The photos on your website clearly show a pool/swim up bar. These pictures must be severely outdated, as this bar does not exist.
The buffet restaurant, and food were horrible at the best of times. This is our fifth trip to Cuba, and we knew not to expect great food, however the food, when there was food available was mostly non-edible. Our family found bugs in our meals on an almost daily basis. Had we not brought snacks with us we would have definitely gone hungry on our vacation. Our main staple was bread, when available, and peanut butter that we had brought with us from Canada.
The Cuban visitors (prostitutes) were allowed to eat before we were, most times there would not even be bread and butter left. The prostitutes would be seen filling bags with food, they would take whole loaves of bread with them! The snack bar was rarely open, and when they did open all of the food, all fried including fried hot dogs, would be gone within 20 minutes. The snack bar attendant would serve the prostitutes first, telling us to come back in 30 minutes.T
The "massage" was a quick rub down and a hand job! One of the people we met on the flight had gone for a "massage", and this is what the woman tried to do to him!
There was no one working at the Water Sports the whole time we were there, although they apparently have two people on staff.
The children's pool was so green and filthy that it actually left a slimy film on myself and my son the one time we tried to swim. The adult pool had huge amounts of algee in it, to the point where it would have been very unsafe to swim in it.
The resort had no internet access, although on your website it does clearly state that there is internet available for a fee.
The resort was filthy. Our room was infested with ants, and small crabs. I must have killed at least 200 small crabs, they were about 1.5 inches in diameter. There were ants everywhere! They were even crawling on our water bottles! There were large dead crabs all over the resort, they were rotting, the smell was nauseating. There were down branches that no one ever attempted to clean. A pair of mans speedo type swim trunks that were all ripped up stayed on the lawn the entire duration of our trip.
There were a lot of Cuban families at the resort from Thursday to Monday, at one point my husband waited 45 minutes for a drink, while at least two dozen other people, all Cuban were served, all the while my husband being ignored.
I spoke to the Hola Sun Rep on the two occasions that I was able to locate him. I did make him aware of our concerns, and requested to be transferred to another hotel. He said that he would speak to his manager and have an answer for me by the end of the day, this was on Thursday. I was not able to locate him on the resort on Friday, and when I called the front desk the person I spoke with said that they ahd not seen him. On Saturday the rep was at the resort again. I once again reminded him of our previous conversation, and of our concerns. I told him that I wanted to speak with his manager, and that my family and I wanted to be moved to another resort that night. He stated that his manager was at another resort, but refused to tell me which resort. The rep then turned his attention away from mt to help a local prostitute who was at the hotel. He then left on one of the excursions, and I did not see him at the resort again until we left for the airport on Tuesday."
