"I spent a week (April 7, 2011 -- April 14, 2011) in Cuba at Gran Villa Cojimar on the island of Cayo Guillermo. It is my first beach/carribean vacation and I was very skeptical after reading many mixed reviews. The flight flying in was comfortable and short compared to longer European flights. Upon arriving, we were told to get on the bus that was transferring the passengers to the hotels, approx. 45 mintues ride to the hotel. To my surprise, I had a great holiday in Cayo Guillermo; you will not spend time on quality beach like those in Cayo Guillermo unless you are spending thousands of dollars in places like Maldives, Mauritius or Fiji. The hotel we stayed at was comfortable in a villa style. Although, it's not comparable to a 4 star hotel in Canada or the US, you will be comfortable and if something is not working they will be ready to fix the problem as soon as possible. Our hot water was not working when we got there but was fixed in a few hours and since it was warm already, it was not a problem. Villa Cojimar lacked a lot of fun activities, but there is something for everyone and the beer on tap was always running. The food in Cuba was again comfortable. It would be hard to compare to the food that is available in North America, most of the meats are grilled and the buffet selection usually has 2 different varieties of rice items and some potato. There is always pasta and pizza to be made (please don't expect Pizza Pizza or Pizza Hut). I personally enjoyed the dessert items that were presented to us. Cuba is very safe to travel and we went to two different city tours, rented a moped for a whole afternoon, visited playa Pilar beach (best beach in the area), went snorkerling at the coral reef from the hotel nautical center at an extra charge of 15 cuc's (I would totally recommend this activity). Overall, I had a very good time in Cuba and will suggest Escapes (travel agency) to any future travelers who are debating whether to go to Cuba or not. Bon Voyage!!"

"We booked this vacation expecting it to be "just OK" and it turned out to be terrible! No plates at meals, terrible food, no toilet paper, dirty rooms.Nothing worked. Staff were rude when you asked for any of these things and seemed not to care.DO NOT GO TO THIS RESORT! We toughed it out for 2 days and then asked our Westjet rep Andrew to move us to another hotel which he did for a small fee and we were so grateful! We moved to the Playa Coco which we had stayed at 6 years ago when it opened. It has changed a bit but still a great resort. The food was much better, snorkeling was better, everything was cleaner and they never ran out of anything. The weather the last 3 days was cold and windy but we made the best of it.
I can't say enough good things about Westjet. They really treated us well. They should however stop selling this resort until it is cleaned up."

"We just came back from Cuba and I thought Id pass along our experience at the Club Villa Cojimar. Keeping in mind this is a 3 star, it was amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food was great, you may have to add salt the odd time, but no complaints. The bar staff, and the entertainment staff always pleasant. A tip does go along way, but they never expected it. The mattresses may be a little on the uncomfortable side but how much time will you be in your room. You'll find there's always a game or a dance lesson for you to sign up for. So if you're looking for a great get-a -way, I would recommend this place for sure. February is still their winter season, so it was a bit cool at night, bring a jacket just in case. Again, its not a 5 star, but it sure can be in my opinion. Oh, only thing that was a bit annoying, toilet paper is at a premium, and soap in the public washrooms not available."

"My sister and I have stayed here for the last 2 years and we are returning again in '09. The staff are brilliant they are friendly and helpful, we have had some great laughs with them. Hotel is clean and tidy, food can seem repetitive after 2 weeks. We would highly recommend staying here "

"No complaints about the rooms or house keeping. The bars were great and the staff was exceptional, always very friendly and helpful. All seating areas were very inviting. The public bathrooms could be given a little more attention especially keeping them stocked up with toilet paper. I hope to visit again."

"We stayed here January 26, 2007 - February 9, 2007 - this was a great holiday. The people are amazing they are very friendly and treat you like family. The only complaint that I have would be the beds - not very comfortable. When we did complain, they brought us a different mattress, which was a bit better. The food gets a little boring after 2 weeks but there is always something to eat. I would recommend this resort if you want to get away and relax and enjoy the sunny skies and very nice beaches - this is the place. Remember that you are in Cuba and not at the Holiday Inn!"

"The hotel was under construction when we arrived, no phones in the rooms, cold water in the showers. sounds of drilling and tile cutting all day long, gave me a headache. No entertainment what so ever. The resort had 2 swimming pools, one was closed because it was being painted. Food was ok, staff are nice, but the resort is not ready for the public, lots of constriction. The beach was aweful, no sand just rocks. Don't go there, go to Tryp Cayo Coco, same price a lot better.
