"The room and service were excellent. The food choices were also excellent. I found it quite petty that you had to pay for Wi Fi, and it was not even available in the lobby ,like most places. The weather cooled down quit a bit by 4pm."

"Our arrival set the tone for the rest of our stay. We were dropped off across the street from the hotel and told to haul our luggage up the stairs, across a walkway and into the hotel lobby. The hotel itself is ok - no more than that - but the staff is very hard working and really trying to please. Forget about the a la carte restaurants; the food there is no better than the buffet and in some cases, worse. They have a big problem with time share sales people in Mazatlan. We have been to other locations in Mexico, but nowhere have we encountered such aggressive, bothersome and dishonest individuals. They never say what they really want, but invite you to take a free tour of some beautiful location. If you're not interested, they will offer you $ 200.- mornings, and up to $ 400.- in the afternoon (when they're desperate) to come along. Only upon arrival do you find out that you're attending a sales seminar. It really spoils your stay, because the minute you leave the hotel they're there bothering you; 4, 5 to a block. We love Mexico, but we would not return to Mazatlan."

"The Sunwing flight departing from Vancouver went smoothly. The hotel, staff, food, service, room were A-1. The Sunwing flight back was a nightmare - the Sunwing Agent in Mazatlan met us in the lobby of the hotel as had been agreed upon the night before however she pulled us and our luggage off the bus as apparently no room on the bus and we got a cab to the Mazatlan airport. Once we arrived at the airport to leave the Sunwing agent told us to go in the wrong line-up (these people and luggage were going to Kelowna), received poor instruction as to where to go to get our flight back to Vancouver. We finally got a SunWing manager to assist us to the proper line-up as the agent has by this time disappeared. The SunWing manager did not "appear" to get the idea that we were not upset about paying the cab fare we were upset being in a strange airport, not speaking the language, not knowing where to go to get home. I was ill that day and very upset with this treatment. I will visit the hotel again as it was great but have serious doubts about flying with Sunwing again."

"If you come to the Hotel castilla you will see people sitting in the lobby who you would think are hotel employees. They are actually time share workers trying to con you into buying a property in Mexico.if you go with there scam and decline they have what is called an exit package and will offer you 100.00 to attend and they will tell you they represent VIP travel which is a total scam you will be told of great Hotel packages for 30.00 and they are reg priced at between 3 and 400.00 per night. They tell you the have offices in the usa and canada but the phone calls are all out of mexico.there dvd they send you is the same as there website. There sales reps will lie to you and tell you of all the savings you can expect it is all a scam you save zero dollars on rooms with them there is absolutely no cost savings for flights or packages for travel that cannot be beat by any travel agancy or air line.they will con you in by pretending to be talking to a representitive of Vip travel on there cell phones and ask if they can book a Hotel or an exciting package for you its a complete scam we are still trying to recover our money from whom they call Mr Jose Torres who is supposed to be a Manager for there company. When w phoned they telll us he is at a hotel 5 blocks away and is in sales.what can you expect from cons beware and pass this Hotel by stay somewhere you will be treated honestly and with pride.would we consider another El Cid resort not in a million years ."

"We had a wonderful time staying at the El Cid Castilla resort in Mazatlan. The food was great there was alot of choices. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The servers were very attentive. We had a special server Slyvestre who helped us with any questions we had and went out of his way to make us feel at home. We enjoyed participating in the activities which were alot of fun, I took spanish lessons with Fernando who became a very good friend during our stay he is an exceptionally warm and very special person whom I noticed to take such care with all the guests and make all the acitivites that he ran so much fun and exciting for all of us who participated. His english was excellent so if you needed any help with anything he was able to translate for you, he made himself available always. The El Cid Castilla is very lucky to have such good staff members it made our stay so much more enjoyable. This has been the best resort we have stayed at by far we will be staying at the El Cid Castilla for all our winter vacations from now on. From the experience we had there our rating is 5+."

"As a wedding present, we received a honeymoon trip to Mexico- I booked the trip, specifying that this was our honeymoon, as the hotel offered a free upgrade for honeymooners. When we arrived, there was no record of our request, so we were given a poolview room. I asked a receptionist, who then contacted our rep and we were upgraded to a gorgeous oceanview room, they also gave us a dinner certificate to a 'pay-only' restaurant at the hotel, as well as a bottle of champagne. They called us after we had settled in our new room to make sure everything was okay.
The food was absolutely fantastic, especially the Argentinian Steakhouse at the El Cid Granada (guests of the El Cid hotels have access to all amenities in other El Cid resorts in Mazatlan), where we were able to book twice! The buffet at our hotel was great, too. Food was tasty, hot and refilled often.
Staff is very friendly, and efficient.
Overall, a great place to visit, whether you're a couple or a family. We'll definitely go again!!"

"Six of us travelled together and we were all impressed with this hotel. The rooms were comfortable, hotel was clean - there was always someone sweeping, mopping or dusting all hours of the day and night. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food on the buffet was good - we were on the all inclusive and would eat breakfast and lunch at the hotel but dine out for dinner (you can only do so much buffet). The location of the hotel was also great very central a short pulomonia ride to where ever we wanted to go. Would definitely return!"

"The hotel was very clean, room service was very good. They cleaned our rooms twice a day. Food was really good too, many good resturants were included in the all-inclusive. the buffe' at dinner does not have very good food. the pools are clean and the hotel has one of the nicest beaches. The staff is very friendly, helpful and nice. The only thing that gets my rating down is the music. the music is repititive and not good at all. we asked them to change it, but they said that the manager didn't allow any other music in the lobby. Over all we were all very pleased with the hotel and will for sure go back again!"
