"When I booked this vacation I was looking for a sun-warmed beach, tropical blue waters and all the "down time" I could get. I got this and more at Gran Club!
The Beach: The coral white sand was amazing. The beach was cleaned of sea weed every morning, and the water was exactly what I'd gone to Cuba to experience! The only issue was the garbage tourists could not walk twenty feet to place in the very available trash cans!
The Resort: Fantastic place. The people are amazing! The young people who head up the animation crew worked hard to ensure everyone was having a great time. They have both amazing energy and talent. The staff at Gran Club are second to none. Everyone from the bar tenders to the grounds keepers were gracious and friendly. Many of the folks working here speak four or five languages! I just have to say "Hola" to Eduardo!
The food: I personally loved the food! At the buffet there was enough variety to have eaten there every meal and not eaten the same thing twice! There was a turkey dinner served with the best salsa I have ever tasted! The ice cream (especially the mocha) is fantastic. The a la carte meals were great, also. The Italian meal was amazing! I have to also mention the all night hamburger/ hot dog/ fries snack bar! Very good. There was lots of ketchup, mustard and salsas to add to the very flavourful burgers and grilled cheese! Don't forget to try the iced capaccino at the lobby bar. You can have it with or without Cafe Liquor.
The Excursions: relaxing was great but the trips offered by our Sunwing representative were awesome! Playa Bonita was not just a snorkling day trip but we had the opportunity to sit with an amazing man who worked at Playa Bonita, during lunch, and had an incredible conversation.
The Room: our room was clean and everything worked fine. There was always lots of hot water and the music from the near-by disco was not loud enough to keep me from sleep.
I would return to Gran Club in a minute!

"If youre just looking to relax and dont mind eating the same thing everyday for lunch and dinner then this place is right for you. This was my second trip to cuba and like the first time the hotel staff was very friendly. My 2 complaints about my stay was that I kept finding bugs in my room (and i dont mean little ones like ants)... made it a little difficult to feel free to relax in the room. The food was ok except for the fact the served the same thing all the time so its best to get a reservation at the restaurant. Most of my stay was spent by the pool because the water at the beach had alot of sea weeds and other stuff. The resort is in a remote area so theres not much to do other than the excursions."

"If you are looking to go and relax and do not require much, able to relax and have fun with people around, you will have an amazing time at this hotel. Food doesn't make you sick, air conditioner always works, rooms are clean, there is no problem with hot water, reception is always willing to help and answer questions, sport equipment is always available and easy to book, bicycles are free (but as we heard it's free during off season only)....I really couldn't find anything to complain about! Take bugspray with you as mosquitos are brutal before and after the rain! Book Junior suite, it's bigger and closer to the beach."

"With this hotel, you get what you pay for. It was the perfect place for us.
It depends what your expectations are when traveling.
Rooms
unless you are a sound sleeper you need to upgrade before you book. most people that were there tried to upgrade after first night without sleep due to the location of the disco that goes till 5 AM-we read ahead of time so we did not run into this issue, but saw many people spending the 2nd day of there trip between rooms.(wasted day on very little sleep)
whatever room you do end up with is kept clean, rooms are very "dated" but good enough for the little bit of time spent in them.
Food-once again your expectations play a big part here. Food is going down hill, and may end up being the biggest downfall of this hotel... could end up shutting it down! be careful of raw food make sure what you get is well done. and be careful if you have seafood issues as it in in a lot of the food, not sure why.
Staff
like anywhere you go there are great ones and ones who should not be there.
they are all looking for what they can get from you. not so much what can I do for you.
most are friendly, and do a good job. they work long hours....
Bar service was Great
Beach
-Nice but once again expectations plays a big roll here.
white sandy beach but there is a lot of seaweed in and out of the water beach shoes a must.
lots of sun beds, and shade huts
Grounds
overall nice big space, well kept.

"My wife and i booked a trip to the gran club this september for our anniversary knowing it was off season and going to be relaxing and quiet. And it was very quiet indeed, but quite nice since we work our butts off all summer. This resort had great reviews online and the price was even better. All reviews were bang on as it was a very nice resort for the 3.5 star they rate it.We have stayed in varadero a few times at higher star resorts but wanted to see another part of the island. The beach wasn't quite as nice with the seaweed in front of the resort but swimmable.Food as always is food in cuba, we don't go to eat exquisite meals just eat to soak up the generous amounts of rum they serve through the day.Pool is nice with the poolbar and best of all the friendly staff that become a fun part of your vacation that makes you want to come back.I rate this a 4out of 5,and would definately go back."
