"Stayed from 17 APR 2011 to 24 APR 2011, We traveled with a group of 10 people from 5 to 65 years old. Staffs were very friendly, we always used to get a "hello", "good morning, "how are you", etc; manners that makes you feel welcome and comfortable. Room are very clean and comfy, very important factor with regards to a hotel. Some hotels are so big that one week is not enough to get to know or enjoy the entire hotel, this hotel is big enough to find your own space (if you want to), rooms near to the main restaurant, bars, pools and beach. Entertainment was great and had great show every night not only for adults but for the young kids as well. We enjoyed the meals especially at the snack restaurant on the beach. We wanted a relaxing holiday and we got it thanks to a well maintained hotel, staff and perfect weather, three (3) must qualities you look forward to have within your one week vacation. Over all ++. I recommend this hotel with no hesitation."

"Excellent, very clean, large rooms with big full bathrooms and walk in closet with safe. Only one English channel on the old fashioned small and very poor quality picture TV, but we weren't there to watch TV. 220 volt supply but a single 115 volt outlet in the bathroom. Large balcony with, in our case, a keyhole sea view. Rooms were all very quiet with very little noise from adjacent suites. Great maid service in the room. Great beach and always someone there to find us a lounger even when it was busy. Nice pool area and well tended grounds. Both the pool and sea were very cold, certainly much colder than we were expecting and not very inviting. Food was plentiful and generally good, but could have done with more variety, essentially the same every day. Breakfast was the worst meal, a congealed mass of overcooked fatty bacon; fatty, chewy sausage of various varieties, a couple of cold meats and cheeses and a limited selection of fruit. Good bread selection - the best thing was the omelette station but we don't eat eggs. Generally good service though more staff smiles would have been nice. The specialty restaurants were all very disappointing, none of them were up to scratch and certainly no better than the buffet - several people we met cancelled their later bookings as it wasn't worth the time and effort involved. Entertainment was adequate, and plenty of bars and areas with bar service and a full range of international drinks available. Weaknesses: definitely the front desk which was generally very difficult to deal with and seemed to prefer to ignore guests than to serve them. We arrived after an unpleasant 6 hour red-eye flight on Air Canada (pathetic grumpy, unattractive and unhelpful flight crew, no food and only 2 drinks services, poor in flight entertainment on a very old plane - how do these people keep their jobs?) and a 1 hour bus transfer and were kept waiting 6 more hours for a room - it wouldn't have been too bad if they had told us this up front but we had to keep going back every half hour or so to be told "maybe another half hour...." - not good and we essentially wasted a day of our holiday hanging around waiting for a room. We couldn't get any food other than a dried out sandwich and hot drink until two hours after we arrived making a total of nearly 12 hours without food since leaving home, not good. The currency exchange rate in the hotel was dreadful, rip-off levels, and it's a long way to a bank from this hotel. On balance though, the positives certainly outweighed the negatives, we loved this resort and its beach-side location and would certainly go again."

"If you plan to go to Varadero, this is the resort to go to. I've been to 7 hotels on the strip and this is my fave.
this was my 3rd time at the Playa Alameda. it's a decent hotel; loved the room, good bed, spacious. One problem this year; the hot water wasn't hot for 4 days, merely tepid. The grounds are small enough so that if you forget something, you can zip back to your room without having to run a marathon. Lovely surroundings too.
the buffet is pretty good here. The 3 a la cartes were just okay; it was nice to get the restaurant treatment but I preferred the food at the buffet. I was surprised because the a la cartes were amazing in previous years.
great beach. unfortunately it was FREEZING the whole week we were there so we only had one good day at the beach, boo! But a great beach. We went for a walk every morning and it was gorgeous. You can walk forever on this beach.
Evening dancing entertainment is so bad at this hotel! Why? It surprises me that a 3 star will have stellar shows but then a 4 1/2 will have untrained dancers putting on a show.
The musiccians were very good. Loved the band every night in the plaza.
the staff is very polite at this hotel; good service, and much quicker than many other hotels.
we took the Bus Ride Of Death into town one day; the double-decker ride for 5 pesos. We sat on the top and thought for sure it was the last thing we'd do; every corner we turned threatened to topple us over. We took a cab back so that we could live to tell others not to take this bus!
I think I'll go somewhere more south next time. this is twice I've had a cold Cuba experience."

"This hotel was on our opinion very decent. The food was good which was a big bonus to us. You could always find something to eat and a good variety was offered,They had a couple different snack bars and they were also very good, although we only went to one Al a ca-rte dinner we did not think that was up to snuff as the buffet was much better. Our room was a bit musty smelling but with some airing out was OK. We think in our opinion that we stayed at a good hotel as we did hear some other people that had some rather interesting and nightmarish stories. I would recommend that in Cuba to stay at a 41/2 star hotel. The pool was nice and centered in the middle of the resort which was a bonus as it was quite windy when we were there,so we were not able to spend much time at the beach.
The staff were very pleasant and always willing to accommodate us,
The night shows we looked forward to seeing every night and offered a variety package. I do wish that they started a bit earlier as they did not commence until 9:45 and they lasted about 45 minutes. And the Pena colads were fantastic.
All and all we were happy"

"This was a good resort. . Somewhat better than usual fare in Cuban resorts. This was a total R&R vacation so we did not do a lot other than enjoy the beach and the ocean and this was a great location to do both. The weather was great - a little cool, by Cuban standards one day, but basically either clear skies, sunny and hot or clouds and sun and hot. Just what you look for. Always humid tho.
The hotel was clean and the rooms were spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful for the most part. However, we were not asking for much - really anything out of the ordinary, so things just rolled along. We did notice that the in-room bar service was only serviced once while we were there. Water was the main commodity we used from it , and so we asked at reception and had some sent to our room. The first time it came quite promptly. The second time it took a couple of days.
We walked the beautiful beaches; enjoyed the sunsets and at least one sunrise as our flight left very early in the morning. If you have an early flight out and are counting on the continental breakfast, which they advertise as available from 5-7 am, before the buffet opens for the morning, don't expect much - the night shift was just going off and had very little to offer. Stock up at supper the night before.
The resort was well maintained, had lots of activities to be involved in if you choose - no pressure to do so if you are not interested. Towels and chairs for the beach were easy to come by.
The grounds were well layed out so it wasn't too far to walk to anything. And you won't go thirsty! There was a little bar every 50 yards or so. There was also a nice mini sized buffet just off the beach, so if you want to live on the beach all day; they make it easy. Or if the pool is your style, there is a snack bar pool side. The main buffet offered quite a variety of food and some dishes were quite good. The band that played in the lobby bar each night was good, musical and not ridiculously loud.
All in all a good place."

"Wonderful all around; great room, great beach, terrific buffet and excellent a la cartes. When we first arrived, the room safe and the balcony door were both broken but they sent a repairman within the hour. We always tipped well at the a la cartes, and if we showed up without a reservation, they'd seat us anyway so we went almost every night to an a la carte. We loved the outdoor bar, the Santiago. After two nights they had our drinks waiting for us. There was a piano bar too. Great service, amazing band every night, so-so stage entertainment. Loved the aqua show. Quiet, small resort, so if you forgot anything you could zip back to your room and back quickly. Stayed here in 2007."

"The hotel complex is lovely, beautiful grounds. The staff are helpful, friendly and always willing to please. The food is good , however could use some variety in the main buffet. After a 2 week stay is very tiresome. Rooms are very large with 2 double beds and a couch, tv , minibar . Bathrooms are large with a large tub, separate shower . Beach is beautiful as is all of the Varadero area. Visit Havana while you are there as well, a city you must see. "
