"This is not a 5* hotel at all. There was no customer service at all. The resort was very big but clean. We stayed in one of the updated room. The room was very clean and the maid did a very good job as well ( we tiped them well). The food was horrible......it was the same food every day and no flavour. The nightly ent. wasn't good either. Overall we would never go back to this resort."

"We travelled to the Melia Caribe Tropical for a week in March my husband and I and our 8 month old daughter. We had done extensive research to find an all-inclusive that would make our stay as easy as possible with the baby. I must admit that we were very pleased. We did book the Royal Service at the Melia and it was worth it to us. Since we had to be in the room early on in the evening because of the baby, it was nice to be able to close the door and watch movies while the baby slept in the other room (we had a one bedroom), Also the pool area was extremely comfortable under the outdoor "beds" under the palapas which was great for the baby allowing us to be in the shade with the baby but having access to the sun chairs when we wanted. We really enjoyed the quainter atmosphere in the Royal Service since it was a much smaller area with fewer people we got to know many of them. Also the pool area is very comfortable. Perhaps the one area that needs improvement is the beach area. They have overcrowed the area with too many chairs making it very hard to manouevre around and there is no difference here between the Royal Service and the rest (except for the beach bar), making the extra fees paid in Royal Service not really worth it on the beach front. Overall a fantastic stay and would agree with other travellers that they need to change their beds, they are very hard. In fact, by day 2 we were both sore and they changed our bed!"

"Hotel is immaculate and the staff are very friendly, helpful and there are always people on staff during every shift that speak English quite well. Food was excellent at both the buffet and a la carte. Pools are clean and relaxing. Been to this resort 3 times. Love it everytime. The Bavaro Beach has the whitest sand and beautiful coast line."

"just returned from 2 weeks at the Royal Service portion of this hotel. rooms were beautiful, meals were really good, pool was great but very busy and the beach is far beyond comparison to anywhere else in the caribbean. the hotel is huge so be prepared to do a lot of walking. kids club is apparently very good but depending on where you are staying at the hotel, you could be a 1/2 hour walk from it. biggest disappointment was that dinner reservations were a nightmare regardless of whether you are staying in the RS section - the butler/conceirge service is also highly over-rated. "the hotel and grounds were beautiful however, the food needed to be more varied and tasteful. Because of the expansive grounds the directions and transportation could be better. Also on the arrival night some-one should have taken us to our rooms, instead we were left to find it on our own in the night."
