"My husband and I stayed at the Melia Cayo Coco in March 2010. We aboslutely LOVED our stay there and give it a rating of 5 out of 5. It was an adults only resort. We are in our 30's and found a few people our age but I would say it is more like 40 +. We had to go during march break as I am a teacher. The resort is small (I think 250 rooms). It was full but we NEVER had to wait for anything. They had lots of people working and they were all pleasant. The buffet was wonderful!!! We have NO complaints about the food. We went to 3 a la carte restaurants. They were also very good. The only thing I could say is that these restaurants were outside and seeing that this resort is in a swampy area, there were alot of bugs (mosquitos). So bring bug dope...or just eat at the buffet...it is better. They "fog" every morning to kill the bugs. Don't know how healthy this is for you but it does get rid of the bugs. THere is one pool (not too deep). There are various activities like pool volley-ball, basket ball, aqua aerobics. We sat around the pool most of the time because the beach area was very windy and narrow. The beach was beautiful and there were lots of chairs but it was very windy. You could swim in it though but it was best to go to the beach in the mornings when the winds were down. It is a nice long beach for walks. The rooms were very nice and they kept the bar full of soft drinks and beer (included). The rooms are two storey buildings so not too crowded. There are Lagoon rooms but I would not pay the extra for this as the regular rooms are just as nice. At night there was always a show. The dancers and singers were fabulous! There is also a "lounge" area where a piano player would play and you could sit around on big sofas and enjoy a drink or a cafe leche. Very relaxing. They had internet, various shops to buy souvenirs, and a pool bar. The front desk personel were very helpful. NOTE : BRING AN ELECTRICITY CONVERTER. I needed to charge my camera and I didn't have one. At the front dest they had one in their office and charged my camera for me. They were very nice. You can exchange money at the front desk as well. Other than that we went into town for a day trip and visited the cigar factory and a sugar caine factory. All very interesting. This was extra. All in all we loved our stay at Melia Cayo Coco and would go back again. We recommend it to anyone!

"My friend and I, both in our mid-50's, travelled here in the 2nd week of November. We chose this place because it was close to the airport (about 15 minutes), adults only (we loved travelling with our kids and love our grandkids, but we also like a lobby bar with real glasses and beautiful breakable flower vases). Also, it had a good reputation for its food especially the quality of the buffet (really good reviews), its proximity to other resorts in the same chain that we could go to all-inclusive, and a really varied selection of activities, both included and $ (spa, horseback riding, bicycles, snorkelling, Havana tours, ocean tours, land tours, shuttles to other hotels and Cayo Guillermo) because my buddy and I are polar opposites when it comes to what we think is fun!.
This place was everything it said it was. The beach was kept immaculately clean (my fave), as was the pool and poolside (for my bud). The buffet was consistently good with lots of choice, the a la cartes had good food with exceptional service. We found all the staff were very good, many of them quite experienced and working at the Melia until the Sol Cayo Coco next door opens again in December after renovations. The other guests came from a wonderful array of countries - lots of British from the Midlands and from London proper, people from Germany, Poland, Holland and Spain, other Canadians speaking every language from French to English to Dene from Nunavut. The nighttime activities were varied in content and location (lobby, then poolside, then amphitheatre, then beach, etc.) and we didn't feel particularily pressured to join any daytime activities (pretty laid back).
Between the two of us we went to every a la carte (would rank them International, then Cuban, then Italian), snorkelled, hobie cat sailed, horsebacked, went to the spa, and visited other hotels. All good value, especially the spa. Solid 4.5 star - and so far in all my travelling years, the most for my last minute dollar that I've ever had."

"We stayed at the Melia for the first 2 weeks of August, and we had a fantastic time!! Perfect place to go to relax, especially since it's an "Adult's Only" resort, and so there are no noisy kids running around, splashing in the pool, and getting their fingers in the buffet food! The waiters in the Buffet Restaurant were very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. The food was delicious!!! So good in fact that we never did go to the 2 a la carte restaurants because we loved the Buffet so much! We stayed in one of the "Lagoon Rooms", and we highly recommend paying for the upgrade to stay in one of those. Beautiful views, and very quiet!"

"Very clean. Attentive and helpful staff. Food was good (for Cuba). Beach beautiful and raked by tractor daily. Nice, small hotel. Mostly couples. Quiet atmosphere. Activities staff not obnoxious and overly boisterous. There is a problem with mosquitos at dusk/dawn. Real drinks - they don't use that horrid slushy mix that other hotels use. "

"We had a wonderful stay! Beach was gorgeous, food was great & plentiful & and we had no trouble booking with the restaurants (in fact, we were allowed to go more than our alloted "twice per stay"). We were in the cabins over the water - they were lovely - but friends had the hotel room & they were almost identical so not sure that I would pay more for ours but no regrets! I read "Irena's" review & I'm not sure when she went but we were there at the end of January - so high season - maybe she was there during low season (I've heard that many southern destinations shut down some of their restaurants during low season - so from April through to November). At any rate we had no trouble getting umbrellas, towels or anything else our hearts desired - and the place was packed! we made new friends & took part in almost all of the activities. We also enjoyed the opportunity afforded us to use the sister hotel in Caya Guillermo for the day - and we've just booked this year's holiday - a week in the Melia Guillermo. "

"Firstly two out of 4 restaurants were closed. One of the them was a buffet. As a result of this closure, there were no food in the hotel. I am not picky, but really there was nothing to eat. Snack bar did not really have much except for sweets all day. For breakfast two other restaurant were used. We had in the morning to stand in line to get in to the restaurant for breakfast. Menu included choice of cerial, eggs and toast (which was more like a cruton) There were no fruits, except bananas. All to say, it was not good. We had to go to a next door hotel to eat every day. In international restaurant we had to pay for the lobster, which is not right.
Staff were nice and pleasant. The beach was good, although no umbrellas on the beach. You could get one for the day if you want to, but half of them were not working properly. All to say this was not a pleasant trip. In gerenal, this hotel needs renovation and improvement in service. This did not feel like a 4.5 - 5 star resort at all. Last year we have been to Varadero and the hotel was great. So I have something to compair to. "
