"Punta Cana, known for its beautiful beaches.. and that IS guarenteed, however, although the grounds of the hotel were nicely manicured, the food was good, service was great, it doesn't make up for the room... (and since we went during March Break, the amount of drunken students was a bit excessive, but that is another story... ).. The rooms at the OCCIDENTAL were extremely MUSTY. Not sure if it was just the "block" of rooms we were in, however we had 5 rooms, all within Building 23, and ALL smelled extremely musty. Room 23220 actually dripped water, through the bathroom ceiling.. so Building 23 is in need of some extreme TLC. If the rooms were updated, this would be considered a SOLID FOUR star.. but Block 23 is pushing its best to obtain a THREE star"

"For the most part we were very pleased with our trip. The hotel was very clean & had very friendly staff. The only negative that both my sister and I had was that they did not cook their meat properly (chicken that ran red with blood, pork same thing), we got so we almost became vegetarians LOL! The rest of the food was very good. The staff on Transat were great! Would go back to Punta Cana in a blink! Thank you for all your help."

"The hotel was amazing!! The food, nightly entertainment, room, and staff, nothing to complain!!! The location of the hotel was close enough to the airport, and also you can experience the locals just outside of the resort (the market). We would definitely go back and stay at the Occidental when we plan another trip to Punta Cana. We never had any problems with reservation for the hotel or air, it was just as we booked it."

"We "my wife and I" went to the resort this past April 2010 and we had a great time, the beach was super nice, the pools were super clean, the food "from the fuffet" was good "we did not get sick from the food", and the entertainments team was fun.
The room was ok, "old, but well kept", the bathroom was ok, and the size of the room was really big.
-Things to do at the Occidental Grand Punta Cana:
1. Drink their hot coffee with warm milk in the morning with breakfast "it tastes super well";
2. Swimming is a must either in the beach, or in one of the pools;
3. Their PIZZAS, FRIES, and NACHOS WITH CHEESE are out of this world;
4. Walking on their beach early "during sun rise", and, or late "during sun set" would do miracle to your health.
We would recommend this resorts for people who are looking for a GOOD RESORT, GREAT BEACH, and ECONOMICAL PRICES."

"I would rate our stay at the Occidental at 4.5 stars. We had a great time, the beach was lovely, the resort was spotless, staff very polite and helpful. The food wasn't as good as expected, but local specialties were excellent. The only aspect I didn't like too much was having the excursion vendors around all the time. They were not rude or harassing, but at every few steps, we were getting stopped. I guess that's how they make their living so I don't want to criticize too much.
Overall, we loved our stay and we would definately return."

"My husband and I just visited this resort for our honeymoon, and it was quite nice. The beach was gorgeous, and the view was amazing. The nightly entertainment was a very talented group of people!
One big thing -- if you enjoy a good meal, this resort is not too great for options -- it was the same mediocre food everyday. The a la cartes were blande, and the proportions were very small."

"The hotel room was very big and beautiful. However, there was a lot of little bugs all over the bathroom, specially around the sink. The beach was amazing, clear blue water (very warm), white sand and hot and sunny weather for the entire week. A lot of restaurants (the pizza is amazing). The staff was nice but a little anoying. The people who go to this resort come from all over the world, which is cool. The pools were big but the water was really warm. The drinks (which are included) were good and strong. "

"Not as they rate it, nothing worked in our room. We requested a crib prior to our departure, in fact we were promised one but when we got there it was a entire different story. Air conditionning was not working, fridge not working -in fact in took them a few days to even come take a look at it. Front desk crew not helpful at all, very rude on the phone when you tried to call them. Food at the buffet was the same old thing for the entire week. Beach was wonderful, kiddie pool dirty, not well maintained at all. Definetely not a 4.5 star hotel, would really hesitate before recommending it to a family member or friend."
