"The Sunwing flight had a few extras that were a nice surprise, including champagne, a hot towel before the meal, and a chocolate upon leaving the flight. The flight times were awful, arriving in Cuba at 4am l and leaving at 5am. Allergy free meals were available. Pens would've been a nice thing to give out to fill out the tourist card and customs card. The hotel buffet food wasn't very flavourful, but had lots of choices, but at set meal times. I found the drinks diluted and they served Mulata, the cheapest rum, not even Havana Club. They only have 2 a la carte restaurants and you have to book in advance in the middle of the day at the desk; I found this inconvenient. There is a cadeca (currency exchange) available but it was a lower rate than the bank ($100 CDN = 91 CUC versus 96 CUC). Cash is king in Cuba, I think there is only 1 ATM in Varadero and not every business will accept credit carrds, and they will charge you in USD. The shower had hot water and good pressure. The rooms were clean. There was a safe deposit box in the room. I did not get 2 messages left for me at the front desk. Air conditioning was available. A mini fridge is also in the room. It was far from downtown, but there was a free shuttle to town 4x a day. However, it is on the route for the double decker tour bus. The schedule of events was not really happening, so no Spanish or salsa lessons as I had thought. Entertainment ends at 11pm, there is no disco. The Sunwing reps were not always at the tour desk and gave inconsistent information over the days that I stayed there. I had to ask lots of questions as I found out different information from other tour companies. Prices and tour options were comparable. Varadero is just a beach vacation spot, but venture out to Havana or the nearby caves to explore a little."

"This was our 2nd vacation booked this year through Escapes. It really was hassle free and easy to use. All of our flights, transfers, hotels, check ins / outs and info was right on. I did have a few negatives about the Hotel. I think they were just opening for the season, and possibly not quite ready for company. The hotel ,pool and resturants were clean but my mattress was not.Our beds also felt very much like boxsprings. The rooms do not have coffee makers. I had to get dressed in the am go downstairs to get my coffee, come back to my room to sit on my balcony and enjoy the view. The coffee and cream are delicious and worth the walk. The food was just ok. I would have appreciated a toaster in the am,but had to have an egg instead cooked by a grouchy lady. One day there were no Mojitoes and the next no PinaColotas. Then no Mojitoes again the next. The young dancers were lovely entertainment but the MC not so much. We booked our vacation well in advance and paid several hundreds of dollars more than others as the price dropped.I was dissappointed that I did not recieve an ocean view room.My room faced south and was to hot to enjoy my am meditation and reading time. I spoke with my sunwing rep and she arranged a new room.My new room and view were breathtakingly beautiful.Thankyou so much! This was my favorite part of the trip. Overall the weather, people, trip and travel were outstanding, considering the price we paid for our vacation. The hotel itsself needs someTLC .Wobbly balcony railings, ants, broken elevator, burnt out light bulbs, dirty railings and mattress to name a few, Sorry to sound negative but the price is right, the beach is great, the weather fantastic and it is Cuba."

"Great beach, friendly helpful staff. Clean room and good facilities. This was my first trip to Cuba and we enjoyed our stay. Met another couple at this resort who had stayed at a 5 star and were not impressed so they came back to Caleta. I figure that was a pretty good endorsement. The food was fine but had trouble getting into the a la carte restaurants, needed to really push to get a reservation. The location close to town, on the west end of Varadero was convenient as well, we could rent Bicycles and ride to the shopping quite easily, not taxi or scooter required. Good value for the money and would consider it again."

"Service was excellent right from the minute we walked in the door. Food was very good with a good selection. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable. Beach great. Would use this as a getaway any day as it is close to the Airport and the center of Varadero."

"Playa Caleta is a very nice little resort that was well worth the money we paid for the trip. It is nicely situated near the end of an incredible beach and has very good service. if you go to Cuba expecting to eat the same food we have in Canada you're going to be disappointed, and with that in mind the food there was actually quite good. There are lots of optional trips and activities so if you need a day away from the beach you have options. Overall Playa Caleta is a great spot if you just need to get away for a week."

"This was the worst hotel I have ever been to. The food was horrific. If you are okay with just eating buns and ice cream for lunch and dinner than you would be okay. The drinks were horrible. Some days they would have pina coladas and then they would say that they didn't. Other days the excuse would be that the blender didn't work or they didn't have any power. The snack bar would have hotdogs and hamburgers every day. They only switched it up one day and had chicked and pork. The only decent thing about this hotel was the ocean but it was hard to get in and out of the ocean as there are big dips in the sand. The rooms were fine and the beds were actually comfortable. Finding a cockroach in our shorts was disgusting. We got a great deal on this hotel but it was not worth it. I couldn't wait to get back on the plane to come home."

"It is my second experience at this hotel. It is an older hotel but clean. I personally find the food good. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and friendly. Tlhe Pina Coladas are very good and the service is great. Tlhe price of the whole trip with Sunwing was just great. Yes, I would do the whole thing over again. I did it last year and this year. The beach is kept up and there are many activities. You can borrow kayaks, go sailing and there is equipment for many games available without charge. I like to go with my girlfriend and just relax. Next year I hope to go with my husband."

"We were there from the 16 to 23rd of april 2009.
This hotel is truely the hotel from hell.
Besides from the lobby area which was nice with a open area comcept with trees, the rest of the hotel is badly maintained and the elevators are right out dangerous,we dropped 2 floors and were stuck in it for about 5 min. When we finally got out and complained to the front desk they just looked at us and smiled.
The front desk staff is rude and dont understand any english.
The food is terrible and there is never any orange juice in the morning and the staff is always looking for tips!!!!Over all its the worse hotel i have been in my life.
The beach was beautiful and the water nice but thats it!There were other things that didnt work but it would take me an hour to write them all.
I wouldnt recommend this hotel to my worse enemy period!"
