"The flight with CanJet wasn't that bad except the food they are serving....on the way back all the members of my family got sick from the food in the plane... The Resort was found below expectations and that's probably because I was comparing it with the other resorts I've been in Cuba. Although, the design of the resort is great as you can reach any place in short walking distance but... our room we got had a very old furniture, the buffet was always crowded and hard to find a seat if you are not first lined up before opening...we suspected to have bed bugs and considering that we witnessed some "overhaul" cleaning done for few rooms I suspect that the Management was aware of this....we didn't complained. One day we didn't have hot water... Comparing with "Cuba" standard, for 5 to max and 1 to min, see below my ratings for this trip: - Flight 3.5 - Food 3 - Accommodation 2 - Pool 3 - Beach 4.5 - Restaurants 3 - Service (waiter, barman, etc) 3 Overall - 3 The best I got so far was a trip to St. Clara in Las Dunas resort that will take an Overall rating of 4.2"

"First time for a 10 day vacation (myself with my 5 teenagers). Was amazed that we could have all stayed longer. The hotel itself could use some maintenance and upkeep, but it was generally clean and safe. Thank God that you really don't go on vacation to spend time in the room. The pool was disappointingly small and although they religiously cleaned it every morning, by the afternoon the spilt drinks and cups were passing you by in the water and it was not cleaned again until the next day. I guess those are the only cons of having a very popular barmaid (Paola) serving drinks at the inside pool bar which was a wonderful escape from the heat The beach was amazing, clean and large, and you could walk to the end and swim out a little and there were beautiful small reefs with lots of fish and marine life where you could snorkel. The restaurant on the beach with its friendly fantastic staff offered great relaxing sit down lunches with your feet in the sand after the morning of snorkeling. The buffet food in the main complex was varied and good, the cooks very friendly and competent although the presentation at the buffet was not as appealing as that of the Blau in Varadero. The "a la carte" restaurants offered much better food and service with the best being the French and the International. Activities continued throughout the day and late evening and there was never a dull moment. The staff (from the front desk, maids, cooks, bartenders, activities to the gardeners) were all amazing, fun, friendly and accommodating. We met several other vacationers who were on their second, third and yes, sixth vacation at the same hotel. That is because of the people who work there. They make it feel like home! We, (myself and the kids) can't wait to go back!"

"The beach is spectacular, very beautiful turquoise colour and crystal clear. There are lots of shady spots and lots of loungers available. Food is very good. We were happy with the selection at the buffet and never booked an a la carte. Our room was very basic but the bed was very comfortable and there were no bugs at all. The water pressure was great and lots of hot water. It was excellent value for money and we would definitely return."

"This was a great value vacation for our dollar. Staff was excellent, responsive and friendly. Hotel kept very clean, except for beach washrooms. Lovely grounds. Terrific beach with good snorkelling right off of it. Natural reserve right beside the resort. Our room had wonderful ocean views (Luna bldg 7), no bugs so we kept the door open all night to hear the ocean...beautiful! Small spa had nice services, gym in need of updating....but when you can run on the beach who cares! Great coffee, average food and make sure you see Nicholas for the best mojitos! I'd also like to thank Charity (X525) at Escapes.ca for her excellent customer service. We travel often and we are already in touch with her again for our next vacation!"

"My husband and I stayed for a week at Sol Luna y Mares in July. The resort was great!! We loved the beach, the pool. The room was spotless, very clean. Food was good, not so many vegetables, but they cooked the meat and fish the way you like in front of you.
It was hot, but we can't blame the resort for the weather:) Overall, if you are looking for a nice relaxing vacation, book this resort, you won't regret it!"

"My fiance and I stayed at the Sol Rio Luna y Mares for a week and we loved it. The location is gorgeous and the hotel staff are unbelievable. Our room was always clean...it was clean everywhere all the time. The staff was extremely friendly and always attentive. The food was good and there is something for everyone to eat. The French a la carte is to die for!!! Absolutely fabulous!!! Please remember to tip the staff. 1 CUC goes a long way considering the average salary is around 12 CUC a month! I figure when I go to a restaurant to have a meal I always leave at least 15% so leaving 1 CUC at every meal for my fiance and I was nowhere near unreasonable and it was helpful to the staff. Besides money tips you can bring clothes that you would donate to your local charity and any toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.) are well received as I saw shampoo selling for near 5 CUC which is a more than a third of the average persons monthly salary!!! The resort is lovely and the beach is gorgeous. The pool is wonderful and you can always see someone at the pool making sure the water is clean of any debris. I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay there was."

"Heaven and luxury all in an all inclusive resort at an affordable price! From the night we landed we were treated like kings and the staff bent over backwards to help (except when a cat and her kittens got caught between the 2ND and 3rd floors, 5 other guests and I helped rescue them and the screams finally stopped after 3 nights).
The food was more than fantastic and the "French" and "Romantic"(on the beach) restaurants were phenomenal, unfortunately the "Carabela" had hair in the lobster!
Whatever I asked for it was given from having both lobster and steak together at both "Romantic" and "Carabela", the staff out did themselves in every way!
We have been on cruises that the "Luna Mares" put to shame. When they say All-Inclusive they really mean it. From horse back riding to scuba lessons and all the food and alcohol you can stand. This was by far the best vacation I have ever had and I will definitely go back again to the friends I made there. I spoke to alot of other traveller's and we all said the same thing "Absolutely The Best"!!!"
