"Overall the hotel was good. Resort was clean, staff was friendly and buffet had a huge variety, including a fresh pasta and fresh stir fry option. The beach was beautiful, and there is a beach market a few minute walk away...past Ocean Blue Resort. Two things to be aware of are; 1) The salesman at the market (or really any peddler of goods) are very aggressive. They will ask you for typically 5X what a item is worth. 2) There are Cayana Club salesman that will try to get you to tour the neighbouring hotel and join the VIP Travel Club. (Memberships start at 14 thousand/C'dn.)
You don't really need Peso's. Everyone takes American $. I found it easier to buy at the markets paying in American $, as then I knew how much I was paying for an item, rather than trying to calculate what the conversion worked out to be.
If you like excursions, the catamaran ride to the island of Saona is beautiful. It is a full day, but the island itself and ride on the catamaran are worth it. I just wouldn't recommend paying more for the lobster lunch...found the lobster horrible.
Lastly, put a lock on all the luggage you check-in on the plane...or expect things to go missing."

"We went when this was the LTI Resort
Nice pool and beach
Food was ok. Except for the Italian buffet which was really good for lunch.
Service was terrible. Main desk staff and main buffet staff were rude, would not and in some cases could not speak english. Arrived at 11am and the reception staff were appalled that we had the nerve to arrive early(Like it was our fault?) and ask for our room.
Called room service on a number off occassions they either didn't show up, didn't know our room number or showed up after making 3 calls to them.
Booked a suite for a family of 5 and ended up on a lesser room on our first night. When asked for compensation for the price difference we were given the use of the safe for free($20 USD).
Our suite leaked like a firehose during a rainstorm. Would have ruined our luggage if we hadn't been in the room. Made a call to room service and they never showed up.
