Acapulco Vacations

"Acapulco is truly the Diva of Mexico. I have traveled there several times & the local people are very nice. It's a classy city that isn't 'fake, touristy'. All workers make you feel like a celebrity, I never even open a door for myself, except the hotel room door - even McDonalds along the Aleman has a doorman! A family of 4 can take an all inclusive day trip to Palua Island on a glass bottom boat, be entertained, well fed & take part in activities like swimming, diving & canoeing. All for less than $30.00 (US) total. You can do Acapulco very inexpensively. Eating on the streets of the Aleman (main strip) is easy & cheap & the water is safe to drink. It's not safe for sure up the hill. Dino's (my Favorite), Tortuga Restaraunt (not in hotel) & some of the American hotel breakfast buffets are also great places to eat, although not cheap. The Tortuga Hotel does serve great food, is lovely & inexpensive, the Los Torres Gameles too. Locally owned hotels are nice, have safety deposit boxes & safe. The more expensive hotels really don't offer much more since you spend the days outside, shopping, body surfing, banana boating, etc. There is much to do. The beaches are great & send out pretty shells. Ci Ci's water park for all ages, beautiful art shops & markets that sell everything, activities galore! Ask to be taken to Mama's at Glory Beach, ride horses along the beach & be well taken care of by Mama & her son. Bus rides are cheap, but so are taxi's & I'd prefer a taxi over a bus on a trip off the Aleman or to the airport. Tell the folks along the street that market invites to Mayan Palace & such places that you have already been there, otherwise you'll end up wasting a day just for a free dinner & sales pitch. Begging is frowned upon by their own people so that is not an issue, however we always bring anything we want to give away & extra money to tip well. You are rewarded by tipping well & having conversation about families with the locals. They will remember you! There is no other preferred travel destination for me - Acapulco is Gold!"

"Acapulco is slowly returning to it's better days. The city is spread out into the older sections and newer sections. If you stay in the Diamante area on open ocean, the hotels offer everything you need without going into town. Old Acapulco has it's own charm, but is about a $30-$40 cab ride from the open ocean areas (Fairmont Acapulco Princess, Mayan Palace, Pierre Marquis etc.). The sun always shines in Acapulco (even in the rainy seasons)! I left my heart in Acapulco Bay. The weather is great and the people are very gracious and always have a smile on their faces!"

"On the whole, Acapulco does not appeal to us. Too large and busy. Crossing the busy street to get to the beach could be quite an ordeal. The bus service however is cheap and gets you wherever you want to go. We found a couple of beaches just south of the city towards the airport that we enjoyed, Puerto Marquez and Playa Revolcadero. "
