"Weather was almost perfect. Nice and sunny until about 2pm, then the cloud cover arrives and stays for the rest of the day."

"My husband and I went to Montego Bay, Jamaica and stayed in the Sunspree Holiday Inn at the end of January 2009. Beware of the porter at the airport. He gave us the impression that it was his job to take our luggage to the shuttle located within seeing distance from the airport door. He demands large tips. Overlooking that, the shuttle driver made sure you were being taken to the proper resort which was only minutes away from the airport. A large rum punch was the greeting when we entered the open concept ocean view building. Check in was immediate. We were given a tour of the area as we were being taken to our room. We stayed in Building #1 on the ground floor with a garden view. Even though it is an older part of the building it was well maintained and an ideal location. It is located within steps from the ocean, pools, eating areas, and entertainment area. The Holiday Inn is all about family. You never noticed any amount of children because they were busy doing activities that the resort provided. The buffets, restaurants, and food huts provided a large variety of food. Tacos and cheese, french fries, burgers, fresh fruit, and cultural dishes to name a few were available any time during the day. Activities for the afternoon stage entertainment focused more on the sun tanners and the elderly. The evening entertainment started out with a performance from the children that attended the daycare during the day while the parents were tanning or on tours. They have a unique way of involving teens and adults in the evening competitions, and then a Jamaican cultural band would also perform. Two nights out of the week they have a beach party which consists of the supper buffet being served by the ocean and entertainment. Sellers would also set up their crafts the same two evenings of the beach party so you had the opportunity to purchase a souvenir. Everything turned quiet by midnight in our building and area however; I do not know what the noise level was like at any other building. We did go out on three tours which were educational and very enjoyable. The agents are available right at the Holiday Inn. They were friendly and provided you with suggestions and all the information you would need so you would not miss your tour. Everyday we enjoyed their water sports services. Free use of laundry equipment and stores are another convenience they offer. I really must acknowledge the friendliness of the staff and the effort they put into maintaining the lush grounds and beach area. The weather was great for the whole week. For the next time the only part that we would change is to have our children and their spouses accompany us. Our purpose for the trip was to escape the cold and enjoy relaxing in the sun, learn about their cultural, and meet alot of friendly people. We did accomplish all of that and more so I really have to rate it as a 5."

"I am writing in regards to the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Montego Bay. I had been to this fabulous resort twice prior to May , 2009. We had picked this resort to return back to for our wedding. There were 30 family and friends that we brought along with us. This resort had been shut down for a couple of months to be renovated because it had been hit by a hurricane. Much to my surprise when I returned in May of 2009 I was quite disappointed. My husband and myself with our two children paid $4300.00 to stay for the week and this was apparently a group rate. The hotel recently went up for sale after the hurricane and a gentleman from Kingston Jamaica purchased it.
The resort was not at it's full capacity so the buffet only had a limited selection everyday. The alcoholic drinks were terrible, they hardly had any alcohol in them that you needed to ask the bartender to add a bit more.
The adult pool was filthy as so was the hot tub. The hot tub had sand at the bottom and I decided to wait a few days to return back to it only to find out that it had not even been touched.
The rooms are still very out dated. I know that you are only there to sleep but you would still like your room to be somewhat clean. I had to ask for fresh towels after the 3rd day of being there.
The only positive thing was the wedding coordinator " Julianne MacIntosh" she is the BEST!!!
I don't know how this resort can charge so much money and they claim to be a 4 star resort. When I was there back in Feb 2007 I had such a great time. Please note that this was the old owner. It is too bad that it has come to this because I will never return to this resort.
Thanks
Valerie Erskine

"My husband and i stayed at the Iberostar Rose Hall in Montego Bay. By far the nicest and friendliest resort we have been to. Although the ocean wasn't the typical turquoise Caribbean water that my husband and I love...we were okay with it because the staff made up for it. Also it was very windy and cloudy the first few days therefore we were not able to go on the beach. Jamaicans are the friendliest and layed back people.
The food was good for a all inclusive...I have been to real bad ones before. Here we always had something to eat. The resort was a perfect size, everything was located close to each other.
We booked through Escapes with Charity and we are definitely booking with her again! She didn't pressure us to book, but helped and guided us to exactly what we wanted. We thank her for calming us down when we panicked! She had our best interest.
Overall we are going back to Jamaica with our little ones next year! Maybe to Negril!

"I just returned from 7 days in Jamaica and loved it. This was the first time that I booked a trip through escapes and it went very smoothly from check in at YVR to check in at the hotel and the rep from Nolitours who was at our resort. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Montego Bay and read a lot of mixed reviews about this resort and was really unsure of what to expect. I read reviews from people that loved it and had a great time from people who thought their whole vacation was ruined as a result of staying there. From someone like myself who has travelled alot in Mexico as well as Cuba and don't expect the "Canadian Standard" for a 4 star hotel, I thought it was fine. I agree with those that said the rooms were old and could use some updating and I could barely open my balcony door, but the amount of time that I spend in my room when I'm on vacation, I don't let these things bother me. The food at the resort was good, I found the bar service excellent and I think all it takes is being friendly to the staff and in return they will treat you with respect. I wasn't overly impressed with the areas in front of our resort to swim in as the water is very shallow and there are alot of weeds, but I did find some spots to go in and if I really wanted to get wet, there was always the pool. I do wish the pools there were deeper though and a little bit bigger. But again, it's all what you make of it. I found the location of the resort awesome, there is a great shopping village directly across the street that is very safe for tourists to go to and just a short walk down the road from that is the best jerk chicken stand called "Scotchies". They are all over the Island and well worth visiting. I met a few locals there that I sat and shared a Red Stripe or 2 with and they were great. One of the guys I met there is a cab driver on the Island named Ripton and I would recommend him to everyone! He came to see us at our resort on our last night there to say goodbye to us and even called us in Canada the night we arrived back to make sure that we got home safe. He was very fair with the price of the cab and after taking us into Mo'Bay and back to our hotel, he asked us to pay him whatever we thought was fair!!! Not often you will find someone like that! We also did a couple of day trips and excursions, one being to Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios and another to Negril, both were great and it was good to see some other parts of Jamaica.
I could go on and on here but I'll stop here. Overall I really enjoyed Jamaica, the weather was awesome the people were friendly and the experience was amazing. I am hoping for another sun destination trip this November and will seriously consider going back to Jamaica."
