Frankfurt Vacations

Along the "Museumsufer," or Museum Row, you will find no less than 13 museums here. This road runs along the runs along the southern embankment of the Main between the Eisernensteg and Friedensbrücke bridges. You will find museums devoted to crafts, film, architecture and modern art. The Judisches (Jewish) Museum, the Senckenberg natural-history museum and the magnificent Städel - whose rich collection comprises paintings by Botticelli, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Rubens and Poussin to name but a few, are a few of the highlights.

Although there are a number of local delicacies to partake, one can not leave without trying a Frankfurter sausage, acclaimed origin of the hot dog. Whether it is or not, it would be a shame not to try one of these tasty treats while you are there. If you are looking for something to wet the whistle try Frankfurt's own apfelwein (apple wine).

Frankfurt is also the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Goethe's works span the fields of poetry, drama, literature, theology, humanism and science. You will find a museum dedicated to this venerated citizen of the city.

Dining & Nightlife
Sachsenhausen is where you will find most of the gourmet restaurants, fast-food joints, live music establishments, and bars. If you are looking for nightlife then make this your top priority. This is Frankfurt's "South Bank".

Shopping
The main shopping area is the tree lines pedestrian area known as the Zeil. This strip has a huge selection of department and specialty stores to wander through. To look for some unique purchases try the Sachsenhausen's weekend flea market held on Saturday between 8am to 2pm.
