Here is a list of the top beaches found on Maui, there are many more beaches as well on the island:

Kapalua Beach has been voted the "Best Beach in Hawaii/the World" many times. This crescent shape beach is protected on both ends by lava rocks and the calm waters are perfect for snorkeling, swimming, and kayaking.

Waianapanapa State Beach is a black sand beach that can be accessed from the Road to. The beach faces a deep cove and is surrounded with lush vegetation. There is no swimming because of dangerous currents and jellyfish.

The quiet D. T. Fleming Beach Park offers good swimming and snorkelling.

Kaanapali Beach has grainy gold sand and a paved beach walk. It's a wonderful beach for swimming and snorkeling where the waters are teaming with tropical fish.

Wailea Beach is a flat gold-sand beach ideal for swimming and easy boarding.

Maluaka Beach is set in a more undeveloped and wild state and is perfect for swimming when the waters is calm, or bodysurfing when the waves come rolling in.

Hamoa Beach, made up of gray-sand beach, attracts snorkelers and bodysurfers in Hana.

Hulopoe Beach, part of the Marine Life Conservation District, teams with tropical fish and dolphins. There is even a tide pool on one side of the bay. This beach offers great swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

"Sheraton Maui Resort is ideal for people who love snorkling (the Black Rock right in front of the resort has the clearest waters and almost always have turtles), and a soft sandy beach with relatively calm ocean. The pool attendants and dining staff were also very friendly and attentive. A short 5 minute walk takes you to shopping and dining at Whaler's Village."

"There was so much to do in Maui. We went for a week and did only half of what we wanted to do. We found that the heat got the better of us by about 1pm and we too exhausted to do anymore exploring/walking and such. Very easy to get around by vehicle. Would definitly return."

"What else can you say about paradise! Friendly people, great service, incredible weather. Only concern is the traffic, especially getting to West Maui (Lahaina and North). I would give the Road to Hana a miss too unless you like white knuckle driving and want to devote a day in paradise to a terrifying drive! "

Things to know about Maui Vacations

Activities & Sports

The nearby volcanic atoll Molokini is known for terrific visibility for scuba and snorkeling. There are also many beaches where you can snorkel just offshore. Black Rock, north end of Kaanapali Beach, is one such place. Of course most developed beaches offer other aquatic activities such as surfing, kayaking, boating, etc.

Bike rentals are possible in towns allowing for road exploration. Excursions companies offer mountain bike trips down Mt. Haleakala. You will also find bike rental shops that will rent you a bike, a bike rack, and some gear so you can ride Haleakala at your own pace.

Hikers are drawn to Haleakala National Park. One good route starts from the visitor center near the top to dormant volcanic cinder cones. There's also a fantastic hike called "13 Crossings" which traverses a stream 13 times. On the way, you'll see a bamboo forest and at the end a waterfall.

Maui boasts over 15 golf courses, several ranked at or near the top worldwide in many categories. Wailea is known for its expensive golf courses.

Dining & Nightlife

Lahaina and Kihei are the happening night spots on the island. Many restaurants have great bars. Places like Moose McGillycuddy's and Cheeseburger in Paradise become night clubs after hours. Hard Rock Cafe is on the Front Street. Do keep in mind that parties and bars close relatively early on Maui.

Cultural performances take place at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Iao Theater and the Maui Myth and Magic Theatre with its ever popular stage production Ulalena.

Shopping
There are several areas to find good shopping in Maui, but prices can be quite inflated. ABC Stores, the island's convenience chain, can be found all over Maui and the other Hawaian Islands. They offer souvenirs and everything else you may have forgotten to pack.

In Lahaina you can walk along the main street for window shopping fun.

Kaanapali has the Whaler's Village Shops and Restaurants, home to lots of stores and restaurants, including plenty of high-end stores.

Wailea is known for its fancy shopping center.

Languages: English, and other commonly heard languages include Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Chinese.

Currency: US dollar.

Climate: Maui's climate is characterized, depending on your location, by geographic differences in rainfall, high relative humidity, elevation, topography, cloud formations, and dominant trade winds. So weather patterns can vary greatly from one location to another.
