Santo Domingo Vacations

"We travelled to Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Bayahibe and La Romana. We found the areas to be poor - which we expected, but also very dirty. Many fields were full of garbage - no recycling program in place as the majority of the garbage was cans, bottles and plastic. Found the people to be persistant with their offering of "anything"... meaning drugs, women - anything you want. We have travelled to Mexico, San Andres, Bahamas and to Cuba 3 times - we would return to those destinations again before travelling back to the Dominican Republic. Simple things were very expensive - 2 drinks and a bag of chips at the airport were $10 US."

"Juan Dolio is an up and coming city. The construction that is occuring there is amazing. There must be 10 hotels being built. It is such a poor country. We ventured out a few times outside the compound and found the roads littered with garbage, people harassing you to purchase things. People wer friendly in most shops we visited. "

"This area of Juan Dolio is very quiet and not suited to ''partyers'' wanting to have a animated night-life. It's quiet and peaceful. The area is under contruction - many many new hotels are popping up on the beach. "

"The Oasis Hamaca is actually in Boca Chica (about 20 min from downtown Santo Domingo). I really enjoyed the location because there was lots to do. Boca Chica is a great town with lots of restaurants and shops. We also went on two excursions, one to Saona Island (absolutely beautiful, about 2 hours by bus, and then a short boat ride) and one to Santo Domingo (very interesting, lots of history and sites to explore). Overall great place! I would go back in a second!"
